In another attempt for me to attain my Black Card I watched Poetic Justice. All I knew about this movie was that Tupac and Janet were in it and there was some poetry. This is about this woman named Justice who works at a hair salon and writes poetry. She also always walks around looking like someone farted. At the beginnign she is with her boyfriend at the worlds worst drive in theater. Like no one is in there car unless they fuggin'. Just fighting, playing video games, kids are on the playground. Its a lot. Markell, Justice's boyfriend, is trying to bone down in the car but she gets mad at him and then asks him to buy everything at the concession stand. He goes and some dudes see him buying snacks. He sees them and knows he is in trouble because he started some shit with them a week ago. He heads back to the car and Justice is now ready to lay it on him when suddenly he no longer has a head. So Justice big sad now.
One day this dude named Lucky shows up to the hair salon to drop off some mail and spots Justice and wants to get in them draws. Mind you, this is 90's Janet so I get it. She plays his ass pretending to be lesbian with her boss and he leaves mad. By the way, when he gets mad he says shit to people that you say to folk when you are either about to throw hands or never speak to them again. Lucky got a shit life. He heads to his baby mamas place and after talking about someone he knows being killed by some dudes out looking to rob someone and kill someone he talks to the other baby daddy living with his baby mama. They head upstairs and the baby mama is just laying around being high. Lucky finds a crack pipe in the CANDY DISH and bursts into her room and she fucking some other dude! The guy tries to get tough and gets stomped by two baby daddy's. Lucky takes his daughter away and the other little boy is like “Me next! Puh-lease?!” He drops his daughter off with his mama and she like “I'm done raising kids so you need to handle this shit.”
Justice has a friend that likes to drink named Iesha. She is dating this dude named Chicago who works at the post office with Lucky. They plan on dropping some mail off in Oakland and want to bring Justice along because there is also a hair show of some sort happening up there. Justice plans on going in her car till it don't work and then the mail truck shows up and Justice sees Lucky and wants out. She ends up going. Lucky tries to talk to Justice and snaps and calls her everything you shouldn't call a woman. She gets out and starts walking and he drives off until Iesha convinces him to stop and for Justice to get back inside. They end up at a family reunion, an African festival. Meanwhile Iesha drinking and talking about how bad Chicago is in bed. She started a fight with her flirting at the family reunion. Lucky and Justice start to bond and its nice and sweet. Meanwhile Chicago and Iesha are getting worse. They get into a fight after they fuck in the mail truck and he comes quick and she says she is fucking someone else. He punches her twice and then Justice kicks Chicago in the dick and Chicago hits Justice and then Lucky tussles and they leave Chicago on the side of the road.
They finally get to Oakland and immediately death is upon them! Lucky's cousin they were going to meet was shot and killed. He blames Justice for making so many stops along the way and they stop talking. Later Lucky sets up his cousins music equipment and Justice starts wearing anything other than all black clothing. Lucky comes to her job with his daughter and everything ends all nice and sweet for everyone. This was a good movie even though it had all the Black movie stuff like death and drug use and broken homes. Like, Justice reveals that she inherited her grandma's place and her mother killed herself. This movie came out when I was like 13 or 14 years old and less than a year after the LA Riots. I actually deserve some sort of recognition for managing to not see this movie until almost 30 years later.
