The Review: Grease

Grease 7/10

Last week L. had me watch this movie after being shocked I'd not seen it. As far as I knew this movie had a couple of songs in it and was about street racing. There are a lot of songs and dancing and one single damned street race. This takes place in the late 1950's and begins with this dude named Danny and a girl named Sandy being goofy at the beach building sand castles and having a great time. She is from Australia and leaving when summer is over and they decide to just enjoy one another. School starts and Danny is running with his T-Bird gang. Not sure how gangy they really are. There is Danny, one other normal seeming guy, and three dweebs. I would not be afraid of this crew even though they all appear to be adult men.

There is another group of girls called the Pink Ladies. Their leader is Rizzo. She is fast. Sandy is introduced to them and Rizzo don't like her from the jump. In the bleachers Danny tells his version of how he spent the summer with this girl and it is very different than Sandy's version. Rizzo realizes that it is Danny that Sandy was all happy and singing about and is like “Its time to be messy!” Danny sees Sandy is all happy until he realizes that he is supposed to be all cool and aloof. Sandy is disgusted with him and runs away. This is their entire relationship. Sandy ends up getting with this big caveman of a guy instead. I don't recall if he ever says a word.

The T-Bird's talk about a car named Greased Lightnin' that they plan to use at a street race. Wait till I talk about that crazy shit. They sing and dance about this car that is just a skeleton at this point and how much ass they gonna get because of it. All these guys want ass and there seems to be plenty of it to go around. Sandy stays with the Pink Ladies for a pajama party. Sandy gets drunk and her ears pierced and hears Rizzo making fun of her. Rizzo leaves to go have sex after climbing out of a window and Sandy sings about how much she misses Danny into a kiddie pool. Rizzo is with Kenickie (the other normal T-Bird) and they are gonna bone down and then the condom breaks. They have the sex anyway. This dude Leo from a rival gang called the Scorpions talks shit after ramming their sex car and leaves.

Danny says he is sorry to Sandy and tries to make himself a better human by trying out for different sports. He is too violent for most of them and ends up running track. There is a whole side story with this girl Frenchy dropping out of school to go to beauty school but sucks at it and comes back to school. I didn't know it worked that way. Their school dance is gonna be shown on live TV and everyone is acting a damn fool. Sandy leaves after Danny starts dancing with Cha-Cha. Seems he used to bone down with her as well. Danny tries to make up for it with Sandy at a drive-in and pisses her off when he tries to have sex with her. This man is out of control! Oh, and Rizzo might be pregnant. She tells one girl and before she gets back to her car everyone knows.

Its time for the street race! Okay, its just two cars and its in the LA River, not a street. Kenickie ends up getting concussed by the car door so Danny has to do the driving against Leo. They start racing and by racing I mean Danny has to avoid attempted murder at this mans hands. He is trying to drive him off the road. He has spikes that come out of his car. The shit is insane. Sandy shows up to watch looking all sad. Frenchy decides that she will give Sandy a makeover and she comes out with pants that look painted on while Danny looks like a dork now. Everyone starts singing about staying together after school ends (which almost never happens) and Sandy and Danny fly off in the car. This movie was crazy as hell and the last song they performed was mostly gibberish. I liked this movie though and we plan on watching the sequel and found out that there was a series. Oh, and Rizzo is not pregnant.
