The Review: Supacell

Supacell 8/10

I had heard about this show but the poster looked kinda cheap so I wasn't gonna watch it. But one day hanging with L. I decided to just check it out and am glad I did. L. got into it as well. This is about five people from South London from very different walks of life who end up having to work together. There is Michael, who is a delivery driver. Sabrina, a nurse. Andre, a recently free from prison dude. Rodney, a drug dealer. And Tazer, a gang leader. How are these people gonna get powers? Do I want any of these people to have super powers? Not really but they get 'em along with a bunch of other folks. The one thing all these people have in common is a family history of sickle cell disease.

There is Michael. He is a delivery driver who is dating a social worker. Somehow, some way, with these jobs they are able to afford a nice ass new car and talking about a new home and getting married. I was like “Does this take place in the 80s?!” So he going about his day until a group of thugs rob and stab him. His eyes change and he is back in his van about to make the delivery and the same shit is about to happen but the leader, Tazer, stops him from being stabbed. He proposes to his lady and in the middle of stand-fucking he vanishes. Thankfully he had his clothes on because he is in the future and surrounded by his team and his future self. Future self says his new fiance gonna die soon and he can change things and save her. He gives him a list of names to find after showing past Michael her grave. Her is Dionne. Michael has the ability to freeze time and time travel...once. I guess.

Sabrina is a nurse that gets no respect. She lives with her dumbass sister. I could write an entire blog post on her sister and how dumb she is. She goes to work and does a great job but gets no promotions or anything. She is dating a guy that acts shady as hell and her sister gets her to head to his place to see what he is doing. A woman. He is doing a woman. She confronts him and starts leaving and he gets too close so she launches his ass against the building. She body rocked this dude crazy style and freaks out. She has this thing where she will hurt someone and then check for a pulse. Her sister is also attached this guy known as Krazy. You know how fucking dumb you gotta be to date a man known city wide as Krazy?! One day at work she is stressing and almost gives a patient too much medicine and hides in a closet and shit starts floating. She don't like this power of telekinesis.

Andre is out of jail and has no money and a teenage son that is easily influenced. One night he punches an ATM cause he has negative money (I remember those days...) and starts spending it like an idiot. Like, sit on most of it and pay what you owe. Nah! He buying all this expensive shit for his son. He finds out he is very strong. Oh and his friend is a shit friend. That is like a theme on this show except for one dude.

Rodney deals drugs and is very annoying. One day while peddling drugs he ends up running to another country on accident. He starts garnering the wrong king of attention because he brings people weed in five minutes or its free. Like, if I could run fast enough to do that kind of thing I would be stealing all the banks money or armored trucks. Not working harder. His friend Spud is a good guy so he gets his ass stomped out 90s style because of it.

Last is Tazer, the most interesting with kind of the lamest of abilities. He and his ragtag crew are at a party and he gets stabbed after being set up by this girl. Don't worry though. He pieces her up later. Like, for real. He beats her like she stuck her finger up his bootyhole while he was sleeping and filmed it. I'm old. I say filmed and taped. Tazer has the ability to disappear which is rather dangerous for someone who walks around with a big ass knife.

Now these are the five people that were in the future looking ready to kick some ass and masters of their powers. But how did they get here? Michael starts finding them one at a time...badly. He wont tell Dionne that she dies soon so she is just left to freak out about the fact that her man can vanish into thin air and is looking for a group of strangers after proposing to her. He actually crossed paths with a few of the people he is searching for like when Tazer's crew stabbed him. He dropped off a package for Sabrina's dumb ass sister. He turned down drugs from Rodney. Other people he has gotten kinda close to like sitting in the same place as Andre.

This group starts to figure that they all have some sickle cell business in common. Michael's mama is in this fancy facility. Tazer's mom is missing and had the disease. Andre's mom had it. The others I forget right now. It also turns out some evil company is taking these Black people and running experiments on them. They shot and killed Tazer's mom after she almost got free. There is another missing Black girl who can heal. Who knows what else people can do? I don't know the bad people's end game or anything but they have a group of other powered Black people working for them. After a crazy ass battle Kraze is one of them because of course he is! Oh, and Andre starts working for the bad people to help take care of his son who he doesn't know is now selling drugs or pimping hoes I'm not quite sure. Oh, and Dionne ends up dying after being killed two times (even after Michael reversed time). I was like “This woman is trying to die! Leave the area!”

This was a good show and I am hoping that they actually make a season two. Maybe they wont considering that Netflix continues to make it so that no one wants to keep the service anymore. They make one good series for every nine that you have zero interest in watching or spending millions on terrible movies I wouldn't bother to look at. Keep raising prices. Making no sharing. They gonna end up being the next Blockbuster and being something we talk about in the past tense of they keep fucking around.
