Full of all the spoilers. I enjoyed the hell out of this season. The only reason I did not give it a 10/10 is because there were a few deux ex machina type situations that happened where I went “Okay, that was weird.” Still, shocked that four seasons in I was still looking forward to watching this each week so much.
This starts off with The Boys on a mission to assassinate Neuman. Frenchie and Kimiko get stumbled upon in the hotel by Neuman's daughter, Zoe. Now, if y'all remember, Neuman was pumping her full of Compound V. This girl spots them and tentacles come out her damn mouth! She saws Kimiko's arm off and they have to dive into the waiting arms of Annie who is still learning to fly. She catches Frenchie but misses Kimiko because she has a baby arm growing in. She splats on the ground and puts her face back on (literally). Butcher's old friend Kessler shows up and knows that Butcher is dying from the fake V he took. Meanwhile Homelander is collecting his falling out pubes and worried about getting old. He finds the smartest person on Earth, Sage, and wants to recruit her for The Seven. She doesn't want to but likes the challenge. Sage makes a plan to have three of Homelander's biggest supporters beaten to death by A-Train, The Deep, and Black Noir (new guy in the costume who is narcoleptic). A-Train doesn't join in but is tasked with running the bodies outside the courthouse where Homelander supporters and Starlighter's are gathered. They get the blame for the deaths. One of the bodies is Todd, MM's ex wife Monique's boyfriend. Oh, and Hughie's dad had a stroke and had been trying to contact him and being ignored. He gets to the hospital and his long gone mama is there! This was just the first episode!
Butcher is forced to tell the team about how sick he is. MM is like “Get your raggedy ass out of here!” Sage recruits this woman named Firecracker who is way too much like people that exist now. She is at an event called TruthCon. The Boys go to spy and Kimiko gets drunk and having flashbacks after seeing a poster of a young girl in a cage like she was. The team gets to spying and get caught by Sage and Firecracker and her dude who can multiply himself. They all have pink eye from salad tossing one another and a fight ensues. Butcher shows up uninvited and kills the original clone and they all die. A-Train feels guilty over the three men killed and left at the courthouse and gives Annie and Hughie proof the men were nowhere near there. Ryan, Homelander's son, is rehearsing his first save. Yeah, most saves are staged. At the real event Homelander shows up (wasn't supposed to) and tells Ryan to really give it to the stuntman. Ryan launches this man into a building horrifying everyone.
Homelander brings in Sage and Firecracker as new members of The Seven. He also has Ashley replaced by Sage and says that Ashley can be the mascot now. Kessler wants Butcher to kidnap Ryan while Becca, in Butcher's mind, tells him not to. Butcher plans to knock out Ryan with some drugged up cookies and decides not to. MM tricks A-Train into meeting with him. MM knows that there is some bit of good in him. A-Train had previously met with his nephews and his brother showed up and told them how all of A-Train's saves were fake and filmed. Oh, I forgot to mention. Frenchie is dating this guy Colin at Kimiko's behest and it turns out that Frenchie had murdered Colin's family. Frenchie is high as hell and hallucinates while Kimiko is fighting the group who kidnapped her years ago and confronted by this girl that Kimiko scarred years ago. Firecracker confronts Annie over rumors she started when they were on the pageant circuit as children. Annie apologizes but Firecracker wants none of that. Homelander, Neuman, and Sage talk about killing Singer who is running for president with Neuman as his vice when Homelander smells Hughie who sweated on him. Homelander starts lasering away and Vought on Ice is canceled due to many deaths. Hughie later meets with his mother who finally tells him why she left all those years ago but tried to get in touch with him but his father prevented it. Ryan comes back to The Tower and Homelander is pissed that Ryan was hanging out with Butcher. Homelander has visions of himself in the mirror who tell him that he needs to go back to where it all started.
Homelander heads back to the lab where he was experimented on and brings cake. He tosses one guy in an oven room after playing trash ball with him. Another he makes jerk off in front of everyone and when he can't finish gets his dick lasered off. A lady shows up and explains that Homelander was raised to crave love. He ends up leaving her in a sealed room with pieces of all the staff. Hughie gets some Compound V from A-Train to give to his father who is in a coma and gonna die. Butcher and MM try to blackmail Firecracker for sleeping with a young boy but she owns it on live TV. She also reveals secrets about Annie to the world. Frenchie is saved by Butcher from Ezekiel. Butcher is about to be choked to death and wakes up with Ezekiel in pieces not knowing how it happened. Frenchie tells Colin that he was the one that killed his family and gets his ass beaten. Colin lets him live and says he will kill him if he ever sees him again. Hughie takes the Compound V to the hospital but does not use it. His father wakes up gasping. Who injected him?!
Hugh is awake and acting like nothing ever happened. Hughie's mother, Daphne, admits to using it when she found it in Hughie's pocket. I never trusted this woman, by the way. Butcher lets the crew know about the virus that kills Supes (hope you watched Gen V). The get Stan Edgar out of prison and hunt for Neuman's hiding places and find some animals that were experimented on. They get attacked by some crazy ass suped up animals and find Sameer, the father of Neuman's daughter Zoe. They have one dose left and put it in a corpse for the animals to eat. They do and die. Its gross. Sameer is missing and they find just his leg. Turns out Butcher cut it off and has Sameer alone to make some more of the virus. Edgar heads back to prison but Neuman blows up the head of the driver and sets him free. Cate and Sam (again, Gen V) are at The Tower and Homelander lets them all know “Hey, we gonna do some fucked up stuff and whatever we want soon.” The Vought news guy gets framed by Ashley as a leak (its really A-Train) and is beaten to death by The Seven. Hughie's dad starts showing phasing powers and kills a few people in the hospital before turning on Daphne. Hughie ends up making something to kill his father who does not want to live after what he has done.
Tek Knight is having a party for The Seven and Neuman. The sneak Hughie in wearing the disguise of a low level Super named Webweaver who shoots webbing out of a hole above his butt. Hughie is taken downstairs to a freak room and is tied up. Ashley arrives because of course. They do all manner of nasty while a guy in a rubber suit watches. MM has a panic attack after shooting Sage in the head who caught him and Kimiko lurking around. Kimiko uses book titles to tell A-Train to take MM to the hospital. A kid spots A-Train dropping MM off and smiles which he loves because he actually did something heroic. Ashley leaves and Tek Knight asks for the safe word. When Hughie can't say it his mask is removed. Tek Knight, who has an obsession with holes, decides he is gonna cut some out of Hughie and fuck 'em. Annie is spotted by Firecracker but knocks her out after apologizing for being awful when they were younger. Kimiko and Annie show up. They start donating Tek Knights money to charities after stabbing doesn't get him to talk. Homelander wants prisons around the country for people who are against the Supes. Tek Knights butler chokes and kills him because he is just over his shit after raising such an awful person. Frenchie turns himself in for multiple murders without letting anyone know. Firecracker reports to Homelander that Annie was there and he gets pissed until she blasts him in the face with breast milk. She has been taking meds to lactate so now they are best friends. Butcher doesn't want to kill every Super but Kessler says that Butcher really does want to. Becca pleads with Butcher until Kessler tells her to shut up. Yeah. Kessler is in Butcher's mind. Butcher never saved him back in the day.
Butcher gets Frenchie out of jail. Yeah. Guy confessed to multiple murders just is out. MM says he is quitting after his panic attack and places Butcher back in charge. Annie is not happy about this. MM plans to leave with Monique and his daughter Janine. A-Train finds him and is like “You think you gonna be safe on an island vacation after shit pops off?” The Boys find out that Singer is gonna be assassinated and head to this apartment and find all the clues. They find a woman in the closet who acts grateful to be saved She slices Hughie's hand and races away yanking her skin off. She touches another woman as she leaves and blends into the crowd. A damn shape shifter! Homelander sends The Deep and Black Noir to kill The Boys. They attack Annie and Butcher until A-Train shows up as well as MM. Ryan is starring in a Christmas special and stands against everything the special is saying. Butcher is proud of him and faints. Homelander kicks Sage out the group because her plans are not working as far as he can see. She leaves as The Deep and Black Noir return. Noir says he loves her. The Deep finds out that she was lobotomizing herself just to be dumb enough to sleep with him. Yeah, forgot to mention that. Her brain never stops growing so she scrapes some away to feel normal for a few hours. The Deep also killed his octopus lover earlier. Seriously, I can't cover everything that happened this season! Annie wakes up chained. She was touched by the shape shifter at the bar and captured. Hughie has been having sex with it and proposed!
Butcher is dying in a hospital bed when Mallory visits. Butcher plays Connect Four while trying to chill Ryan out. Mallory has zero time for this and tells of all the crimes Homelander has committed. Ryan just wants to leave but she says she will gas them. He doesn't want to be used as a weapon and ends up shoving Mallory into a wall breaking her neck. He walks out as Butcher agrees to have Kessler take over his body. The Boys are in a bunker with Singer and aware a shape shifter is around. Annie says something the shape shifter said earlier and Hughie realizes what's up. He tells MM but they start acting weird and the shape shifter starts murdering everyone. Kimiko fights her until her neck gets broken. Annie arrives and chokes out the shape shifter, killing it. Homelander outs Neuman as a Supe on live TV. She calls Hughie and says she is ready to make a deal to help her and save her daughter. While they meet Butcher shows up and tentacles jump out his chest. He knocks out Zoe and rips Neuman in half! Sage arrives and lets Homelander know that the new president wants to follow Homelander so now he is actually in control. Frenchie and Kimiko smooch and its nice. The Boys realize they gotta bounce now that shit is wrecked. Hughie and Annie are stopped by Cindy! Hughie tells Annie to leave so she flies away after not being able to control her powers all season. Cate says something to Frenchie and he walks away as Kimiko says something for the first time and is stopped by Sam. MM is knocked out by the dude with the huge penis. Butcher has the virus and drives away. Zoe is taken to Red River. Everything is fucked heading into the next and final season. Oh, and in an extra scene Homelander is taken to Soldier Boy who is not dead but in stasis. Fuck.
This was a very good season. I know a lot of people complained that it was copying the world now which I found funny because the show was filmed a while ago. Not its fault the real world is behaving like a superhero series about a bunch of sociopaths. I am glad that the next season is its last because I didn't think they had enough material for this many seasons but they did. The next season is gonna be insane from the start. My only real complaints were some issues were resolved too easily (Frenchie being released from prison) or Hughie for sure not dealing with the fact that he was sexually assaulted multiple times. Other than that, strong season.
