The Review: Gen V

Gen V 9/10

This is going to be full of spoilers. I checked out that show Gen V on Amazon which is a spin-off of The Boys. This show is just as crazy intense and at times gross as The Boys. If you are a fan of that series in the previous three seasons it has you should like this show. What I like is that these kids do not think these are god given abilities and know that at some point their parents, for whatever reason, had their children pumped full of chemicals for cash.

One of the first characters is Marie. This girl has the ability to control her blood and turn it sharp or into whips and use it as a weapon. Speaking of using it as a sharp weapon she first discovers her power after she gets her period and her mother burst into the bathroom and get sliced to ribbons. And then her father walks in to see what all the commotions about and he gets blowing the hell up. Her poor little sister walks in seeing all this and is understandably upset. It seems like the show starts off with Marie as the main character of the show but as they slowly start to introduce more people and other students and stuff her storyline seems to stall a little bit and by the end of the season we still don't know where her younger sister is. All we know is that she does not want to talk to her.

Another character is a guy named Luke aka Golden Boy. He has the ability to turn into flames and he's super strong and can fly and is pretty much like a young Homelander minus the psychoticness. He ends up only lasting through the first episode I believe after he ends up setting one of the professors on fire and then getting into a brawl with another student. He ends up flying up into the sky and exploding himself and just raining pieces all over everybody. We find out later why he did this and the issues that he was going through. I hope he keeps coming back through flashback form.

Another character is named Kate. If she touches you she can tell you what to do and there's no fighting against it and you're going to do it. Like, at one point this dude who was talking trash after Golden Boy (who was her boyfriend) blew himself up she ends up telling him to hit himself in the balls with a baseball bat every hour while screaming Jumanji. And he does. It also turns out she's working for some bad people and was cheating on Golden Boy with another character and just erasing his mind after it would happen. She was also doing this to Golden Boy making him believe that his brother was dead. She ends up losing an arm so it pretty much equals out.

Jordan is another character that can switch between being a boy or a girl. When he's in one form I'm not quite sure cause they never really explain the powers but it seems like when they are in the form of the boy he is very strong and powerful but when he's in the form of the girl he seems strong but quick. I'm not quite sure. They end up having a relationship with Marie that they weren't even sure how it happened because Kate had messed with their memories. I really like this character but would like more explanations of their life and more backstory.

Another character is Andre. Andre is sort of bland and is the son of a superhero named Polarity. He has the ability to control metals. It's not that interesting. He also finds out that his dad knows all about the secret evil stuff happening underneath the school and tells him to shut up about it. He cheated with Kate while Golden Boy was alive and had his mind erased of it and when he finds out wants to kill her.

Another character is Emma aka Cricket who has the ability to turn very small. The jacked up thing about this is that to turn small she has to make herself throw up. It's gross. But we also later find out that she also has the ability to make herself gigantic by eating a lot. Another character that I know has a lot more story that I hope they get around to.

One of the last characters I'll talk about is Sam. Sam is the younger brother of Golden Boy and he has been locked up in this place that everyone calls The Woods where they are experimenting on students. It turns out that the lady who's running the place had her daughter and husband killed on the flight that Homelander let crash into the ocean in the first season. So she's trying to develop a disease that only affects supes and kills them. As for what Sam can do this boy seems pretty damn invincible and is incredibly violent and psychotic. He has hallucinations where when he's doing all this crazy violent stuff people just look like little puppets to him. It's pretty jacked up. I want to watch some behind the scenes and more things about this show and I'm glad that it's getting a second season because just like The Boys I could see this going three, maybe four seasons and then just stopping. I think a lot of shows that I enjoy I feel as if four seasons should be enough to tell your story.
