The Review: Love & Basketball

Love & Basketball 3/10

This movie was boring as hell, y'all. L. told me and I know that this is one of those movies that is supposed to be really good and whatever. I couldn't get into it at all. Maybe its because I don't care about basketball. Maybe its because the movie didn't have any particular sort of style. Maybe because the conflict that was in it seemed so force and blown out of proportion. Either way, meh. Little girl new in town. Boys think she can't play basketball because she lacks a penis. Boy likes girl. They date. In college boy becomes asshole. Boy treats girl like shit. Later girl becomes successful overseas. Boy gets injured playing basketball. Boy engages another woman. Girl upset because she like boy. Girl challenges boy to basketball for her love. Boy wins. Boy decides to play another game. They get married and have daughter. The end. I simplified it but not really. I didn't hate this but I also didn't feel much of anything while watching and it felt long as hell.

The Review: Reacher

Reacher 9/10

I loved this damned show. Years ago I saw the movies and was a fan of the first one but the second was trash. I started reading the books and had trouble getting into them because Tom Cruise looks nothing like the character. I can get past that a lot of times but the dudes size is such an important part of his aura that I would lose focus thinking of an actor to replace him with in my head. When they announced a series was coming and the author asked for ideas for the star of it I wrote a blog post (click here for that) of who I thought could pull it off. Well, they didn't pick who I wanted but they did a damn good job because I can't picture anyone else playing the role now. And thank god they didn't go with a young actor.

The Review: Kimi

Kimi 1/10

I have been striking out with movies. This is about a woman that is afraid to leave her place because of an assault as well as Covid. She works for a company where she goes through their Amazon Siri type device and fixes it so that it can understand its owners better. She hears an assault and tries to report it and ends up being sent through every hoop. It turns out that the recording she heard, the creator of the device was the guy in it and he assaulted a woman. He finds out through his shady team and they track her down, kidnap her twice, and she manages to outsmart them. In this movie the main star seems like she is acting in an actual movie and everyone around her is in another film. Like a TV movie or something. I just sat for most of the film waiting for it to begin and not watch someone working from home. Hell, I'm doing that! Its not fun! For her to succeed in everything she is doing to escape and do the right thing everyone else has to be stupid, and they are. This is the kind of movie you could just put on while you're doing something else and not miss too much.

The Review: The King's Man

The King's Man 1/10

This movie was terrible. Really enjoyed the first one and couldn't make it through the first fifteen minutes of the sequel. I was excited about this one...two years ago. This was supposed to had been come out but it kept being pushed back because you all don't know how to stay indoors and wear masks properly. Well, they released this on streaming and this feels like they took two movies that weren't that good and turned it into one terrible and long feeling one. I'm not sure how to even explain this movie. Guy used to be a soldier, didn't like it, wife gets killed trying to do good, guy doesn't want son to be a soldier, son gets killed in war, father is like “Fuck it” and starts fighting again to stop the war from getting worse. I wasn't even excited during the fight scenes. I just kinda sat here and they happened. The funny thing about this is that the character that I thought would be the main focus gets shot in the face and its all downhill from there. Well, more downhill. And then this movie had the nerve to threaten me with a sequel. No thank you.

The Review: Jason's Lyric

Jason's Lyric 5/10

So L. had me watch this movie called Black Trauma. I mean Jason's Lyric. That's what it was called. I have heard of this movie forever. I honestly had never watched it because of the stars. I have nothing against them personally I just...I don't. This is about these two little brothers named Jason and Joshua. Their father Mad Dog goes to war and comes back with a leg missing along with his mind. He comes to the house and has violent outbursts and their mother refuses to let him inside. One day he gets in and one of the brothers shoots his ass after he hits their mother. I thought it was Joshua because of how he is as an adult (I'll get to that soon) but it turns out that Jason did it. So they grow up and Jason works in a TV shop while Joshua just gets out of jail for who knows what. Apparently that's just his thing. They throw him a welcome home party and he is drunk off his ass and ruins everything. He wants to get right back into crime and make money.

The Review: Brown Sugar

Brown Sugar 4/10

This movie bothered me personally. There is this trope in movies where if a man and woman are best friends that eventually they start fucking one another or constantly get into relationships with people while wanting to fuck their best friend instead. Does this happen in real life? Yes. But as someone who has a best friend that is a woman I just roll my eyes and groan because I have had relationships go into the shitter because a woman refused to believe that me and my best friend did not want a relationship or had not had one and chose to stay friends. Honestly, almost every woman I know still talk to their ex boyfriends which is strange to me but I just go “Okay.” This movie makes the two friends pathetic in their desire to have one another and not do anything about it until bigger messes are made. I should probably talk about the movie.

The Review: Peacemaker

Peacemaker 10/10

No complaints! I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this series. Everyone was cast perfectly. The music was cool. The action was amazing as well as graphic as all hell. I did not think this would be as good as it was considering I don't know shit about the character from the comics. I knew who he was from the strange helmet but could never tell you his name if asked. So when he popped up in The Suicide Squad I enjoyed him but didn't know how they would be able to make an entire series featuring him. They somehow did and made one of the best TV shows of the year and its only February. I know some folk are burned out by superhero based movies and shows and I am not. I just want good ones and this was one of the best made. Seriously. No complaints! You know how rare that is for me?!

The Review: The Book Of Boba Fett

The Book Of Boba Fett 9/10

This show was fucking awesome. Everyone should know by now that I did not grow up watching Star Wars. I knew some of the characters and was mostly interested in the character designs. I watched Episodes 1-6 in order. Watched the new films out of order. So when The Mandalorian was coming out I wasn't all that interested and ended up loving that show and making a bunch of art based off of it. So by the time Boba Fett's show was announced I was hype as hell. This series did not disappoint me. Thankfully I know random information from the animated shows and from YouTube and friends otherwise when certain cool things of characters showed up I would have been like “Is this important?” Though this is seven episodes long there are about two where Boba Fett is not shown or just barely. Did I care? Nope. It was still good.
