The Review: Invincible

Invincible Meh/10

I didn't really feel any sort of way while watching the first three episodes of the new animated series Invincible. It wasn't terrible or anything. It wasn't even boring. I just didn't feel any attachment to a single character which was weird since there are so many of them. This is about a kid named Mark whose father is a superhero named Omni-Man. His mother is normal and it is expected that soon Mark will get powers. He does and his father tries to train him even though Mark is impatient and wants to be great immediately. He has a friend at school, a girl he likes, there is a bully. Its all very basic. They are building up to something big and dark later but I'll just wait a few months till all the episodes air before I jump back into this. The art and voice acting are fine. Not a fan of the music choices. Its super violent and I have no idea why anyone would think the heroes are awesome considering how many people were slaughtered in each episode. Check it out if you want. They released the first three episodes the other day on Amazon.

Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible

Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson

J. K. Simmons as Nolan Grayson/Omni-Man

The Review: Falcon And The Winter Soldier S1E1

Falcon And The Winter Soldier Episode 1 “New World Order”

So far so good. The first episode of Falcon And The Winter Soldier was so engaging that I forgot that I was watching a TV show and thought it was a damn movie. When it ended I had my feelings hurt. This takes place like six months after everyone that got blipped came back. Again, like with Wandavision I love how they are showing that life was fucked for folks that had to stay behind. It wasn't like only people vanished. Half of all life vanished including things like food. Animals. They're called animals. So Sam Wilson aka Falcon is helping to take out some terrorists by flying plane to helicopter to helicopter. It was crazy as hell. They even brought Batroc back! Dude hasn't been around in years.

The Review: WandaVision

WandaVision 10/10

Full of spoilers. Not even an hour combined. That is the amount of time that Wanda and Vision had on screen throughout all the MCU films. So who in the hell thought that it would even be okay to make an entire series focusing on two characters where one of 'em ain't even alive?! I don't know but I'm glad that they did because this show had no right to be as good as it was. Based on the trailer and the first few episodes I had so many questions and thankfully they answered all of them by the time the series wrapped up with nine episodes.

Documentality: Biggie I Got A Story To Tell

Biggie: I Got A Story To Tell 9/10

I watched this documentary on Netflix called Biggie: I Got A Story To Tell that Cam told me about. It was so damn good. I remember when he first appeared on the scene and the shit was weird. It was this dude that didn't rap like anyone else. Used music I didn't think a rapper would. His flow was original as fuck. When he did I was in high school and was shocked that he was only 24 years old. This documentary features footage by one of his friends and he had a lot of backstage and hang out video that was really cool to watch. Plenty of interviews with friends and family. I learned about who and what influenced him and why he rapped the way he did, sold the drugs he did, and trusted who he trusted. I was surprised that his mother was involved in this and appreciated how honest she was with how she felt about the way he was living his life. This wasn't focused on his death which is what I was afraid that this would be about. It was a great celebration of his life. Check out it. For a Netflix doc it was far classier than it should've been.

The Review: Coming 2 America

Coming 2 America 7/10

Spoilers comin'. A few days ago L. and I watched Coming 2 America. I had not watched the original in years but remember really liking it and the crazy amount of memorable characters and quotes. While I did like this movie and it had some really funny parts and surprising cameos there were some things I did not enjoy which I'll get to. On Prince Akeem's 30th wedding anniversary his father King Jaffe Joffer lets him know that he knows he'll be dying soon and that he still has not had a boy to take over for him as prince. Akeem has three daughters. This gross old shaman reveals that Akeem has another child, a boy, that he does not know about. It turns out that Semmi set him up years ago and they went on a date and Akeem was fucked by what he thought was a wild animal and turns out to be a woman. So yeah. He has a kid. Akeem also needs to make peace with the nearby nation or there will be war and his oldest daughter does not want to marry this weird ass dude.
