Curtain Call: Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity 2/10

Last night my lady traversed rainy LA weather for this show. She had fought to get tickets with their website not working and even having to contact them over the phone like this was 2002 to get us some tickets. She finally did and boy that was a waste of time. Best part of the evening was getting some really good food at The Little Jewel of New Orleans. Seriously. Great food. Have to go back. Anyhoot, so we got in line for parking and had to go eight levels down before we found a spot. We get inside and the place is pretty crowded. We had seats further back but we were able to see the entire stage not that it mattered. I'll explain why later.

This is about a couple that moved from Chicago to London after the wife (names I can't even recall at the moment) has some troubles with her mind parts. James and Lou. That are their names. Lou is sleepwalking and depressed. James seems very happy-go-lucky. By the way, at no point did I understand why these people were married let alone friends or anything. Zero chemistry. So weird shit happens and she gets upset because James downplays it or doesn't believe Lou when she talks about something following her from Chicago to London and she has known this darkness since she was a child. She takes meds for it. James' mother calls over the phone and is all in their business. We later find out some dark shit about both of them.

Know what?

I'm not recapping all this shit. The story is not worth it. I have not seen this series of movies and this was an original story. I know the basic plot of the first movie. This is not that. This is a series of loud noises, obnoxious noises, and obvious stage acting with random special effects, some of which you might not even get to see. Mother ripping her face off? I barely saw it. My lady missed it. Body upstairs? I saw it for a moment? Small person upstairs? A moment. Blanket being pulled? Barely noticeable. There is some other shit that happened that we flat out missed.

We expected at the very least some amazing stage effects. Fuck the story. The guy that did Harry Potter And The Cursed Child is doing this. We are gonna see some cool stuff live again! Nope. This was two hours of a show that could've been a clean 90 minutes or less with no intermission. I told L. that we could leave if it was wack but she and I believed that the one cool effect just before intermission was the first of what would be many. We were super wrong. We left right as the show ended and raced to the car to leave as it began to pour.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who is a fan of horror or being spooked. The reviews I have been seeing confuse the hell out of me and I wish I felt half as good about this as they were. Thank god the tickets were super cheap and we had a good meal because if our night consisted of just this show and a bad dinner the whole day would have been ruined. Boo this.
