This is gonna have some spoilers! L and I went to see this a couple of weeks ago at The Pantages. Thankfully this was not a musical because that theater is known for having a terrible sound system. We went and had dinner beforehand which was awesome on Hollywood and then hunted for parking because screw paying like 30-something bucks to be trapped underground and waiting an hour to leave. My best friend gave us the tickets for this and I am so happy because this show was incredibly fun and visually the best use of effects I have ever seen live.
This is the story of Harry Potter's son Albus Severus Potter heading to Hogwarts for the very first time. While riding on the train with Rose (Ron and Hermione's daughter) Albus meets Scorpius Malfoy who is the son of Draco. While Albus seems like kind of a dick Scorpius is actually really nervous and the opposite of what you would expect. He loves the fact that he is making a friend that doesn't think he is trash because of his lineage. The sorting hat, which was a man in brown performing, sends both Scorpius and Albus to Slytherin house. The audience gasped.
Time passes and people make fun of Albus for not being as good of a wizard as his dad and Scorpius being the rumored child of Lord Voldemort. Before the fourth year at school Harry and Albus get into an argument where Harry says he wishes he was not Albus father. By the way, I am leaving out so much of what happens because this was a three hour play and everyone has weird names and I have not read any of the Potter books and have not watched the movies repeatedly.
The most basic of ways to explain the plot is that the boys steal Harry's Time Turner and try to change a tragic past event. The issue is (after using it multiple times) is that the future gets worse each time they return to the present. There is even a time line where Voldemort runs the school and I thought the logo was cool as hell. Its currently my screen saver on my phone. Me and my lady really enjoyed this show and want to see it again while its here. The magic that was done on stage was incredible to look at. Each time the Time Turner was used the stage would wobble and I was amazed each time it happened. The Dementor's freaked my lady out but to me they looked awesome. The only reason this is not a 10/10 is because the theater. Those seats are small and cramped and sitting through three hours in that environment is rough on my old body.
