The Review: A Quiet Place 2

A Quiet Place 2 (8/10)

This movie had me tense as hell. I have not seen the first movie but L. gave me a pretty good recap of the film and combined with what I knew of the film that was enough. So these monsters that hunt by using sound show up and wreck shit. The focus is on the Abbott family that consists of a mom, dad, deaf daughter, son, and younger son. Younger son gets snatched by creature because he sets off a toy rocket sound. Mom gives birth silently after stepping on nail. Dad sacrifices himself. Deaf daughter realizes that creatures are sensitive to sound from her hearing aid. This movie starts off showing how these monsters first showed up. Whole nice ass town at a baseball game when suddenly they see something crashing to Earth. They calmly, surprisingly calmly, leave the game and then all of the hell breaks loose!

The father and deaf daughter run into a bar where this man praying and gets shushed. This girl trying to call her mom who don't answer and then calls back right when a monster right outside the window. That monster bursts in like the damn Kool-Aid Man and starts slicing and dicing folks left and right. The father and daughter make it to the mom and sons who were in an accident after a bus being attacked chased their asses down. Its too much! Fast forward like a year and most of the planet is fucked because we noisy and no one knows how to stop these things. The mom and kids (including a baby which are known for their silence) are trudging around after grabbing some supplies from the house. They start heading to this place and they set off some bottles left as an alarm which alerts the monsters. Then the boy gets caught in a damn Dead By Daylight bear trap and starts screaming like the shit is new. The mom can't shut him up so a monster comes and she and the daughter tag team this bastard and blow his head off.

This guy snatches them and takes them to safety. Turns out it is one of their old neighbors and he is just living to live. His sons were killed the first day and his wife died later. He is like “I can't help you” and the mom is like “I got kids and you should.” I would have been like “Pfffft!” They need an oxygen tank for the baby to keep it quiet, medicine and bandages for the boy and his jacked up foot, and the girl wants to get to a radio tower and play the sound the monsters hate. She leaves in the middle of the night. Mom guilts dude into going after her. Mom leaves to get medicine and has the injured boy watch the baby. Oh, I forgot to mention that the only safe place in this joint is a furnace or some shit where you only have air for a short amount of time.

So the girl is on an adventure and gets saved from a monster by the neighbor. He finds a boat for them to use and they get caught in a trap where these wild people used a child as bait. They escape and alert monsters. Turns out the things can't swim. The boy makes noise and accidentally locks the thing he and the baby are in so they have barely any air. The mom who left and trekked for miles had no issues until she got back home and had to set a monster on fire. The girl and neighbor make it to an island and people are having dinner, on swings, listening to music, its perfect. But not for long. Turns out a monster stowed itself onto the boat and starts killing everyone. They lure it to the radio station and defeat it using her plan. She broadcast it across the radio waves and back in the base the son uses it to subdue the monster before shooting it. The end.

This movie had my ass clenched for most of it. I kept holding my breath like I was gonna give their location away. I would have said it was silly that some people acted feral in less than a year but after seeing how y'all fought over toilet paper shortly after killing one another over Popeye's chicken sandwiches I think it would take maybe a month before we got to that point. This was a really good movie. We saw that there is supposed to be a prequel kinda and another movie and I'm not so sure that needs to be done. It will be just people hiding and freaking out while being quiet or watching society try to rebuild and you know for sure someone will try to turn the monsters into a weapon.
