Spoilers. I know that I am writing this review based off of a lot of my own personal feelings and I super don't care because I got to see a cool ass He-Man movie that had everything I wanted and more. As a kid He-Man was one of my favorite cartoons. I had random toys (Ram Man being the best one) and have made dozens of Perler designs from the series. Dressed as Skeletor for Halloween once. When I was little there was a movie made and even back then I knew that movie was ass garbage from a human butt. So when this was fist announced I was nervous and then I saw the trailer and got all kinds of hype about it. L. and I went to see this at The Grove which I had not seen a movie at in a lot of years. And why I was there I managed to get a Skeletor bucket and He-Man cup that will be displayed. Should talk about the movie some.
Now when I watched the trailer my concern was that it would mostly take place on Earth and I would be looking at my watch until he got to Eternia and all the weird shit could happen. Well, this starts off on Eternia where young prince Adam is a tiny kid that gets his ass kicked while trying to train. His father is like “Ugh...” One day the kingdom gets shellacked by Skeletor and Adam is given the Sword of Power and he is sent to Earth. On Earth he is a normal dude just waiting to get back home. When he landed he lost the sword and has been putting ads online to find it. One day at work he gets a response and finds the sword at a comic shop. Next thing you know his ass being hunted by Beast Man and Teela shows up all grown to save his ass. She then takes him back to Eternia.
Eternia looks like shit now! He and Teela end up in jail with her dad Man-At-Arms and others including Fisto and Ram-Man. I was so happy with the amount of Ram-Man in this movie! I am not gonna sit here and review this movie like any other movie because like I said a lot of emotions are tied into my enjoyment of this. Could it have been better? Yes. I wanted more weird ass characters from the series. Like, the one with the horns that was fighting a lot? Don't even remember him and had to look him up. Should have been Beast Man in that spot of Mer-Man who I read is in the background of one scene. There is a post credit scene with She-Ra which L. loved and even Orko!
The music in this was incredible. I listened to the soundtrack at work today and the main theme song about fifteen times and humming it whenever I stop thinking for a moment. It fit perfectly with the movie and just the amount of care done with this made me so happy. They made me give a damn about Adam before he even became He-Man which is something movies have forgotten how to do with heroes out of costume. I am glad I saw this in theaters because I missed out so hard on Transformers One and didn't want to make the same mistake. The casting was good for the most part and anyone I wasn't happy with did good enough to not distract me. I already know I am gonna watch this every few weeks when it starts streaming at least for the music.
