The Review: Creed 3

Creed Three 8/10

This was a cool ass movie but I thought it felt kind of rushed. This could have been two movies and I would've liked it more. This starts with Adonis as a kid and his friend Damian at an underground boxing match. Damian is good. They end up at a liquor store and Adonis starts whipping this dudes ass. Damian ends up getting arrested as Adonis runs off. Fast forward to present day and Adonis is retired and watching his lady pursue her singing career and caring for their daughter who has a hearing impairment. He also has a boxing school and one of his fighters is going against Drago's kid. At home his daughter gets in trouble for boxing up a child that messed with her.

Damian gets free from prison and Adonis doesn't know who he is at first. Then he looks kind of worried. He hires Damian as a sparring partner and Duke says he is too aggressive. Damian wants to fight Adonis' fighter but that ain't happening. Drago's kid ends up getting jumped so Damian replaces him. Damian fights dirty as hell and ends up winning the fight. Later that night Adonis' mother shows him a letter Damian sent from prison. Turns out she was keeping all the letters because she thought that he was a bad influence on him. Little does she know her son is the dirtbag! Adonis also figures out that one of Damian's friends was the one that hurt Drago. Adonis can't talk to his wife about this and Damian punks Adonis out in person and on TV. Oh, and then Adonis' mama has a stroke and dies. He finally tells his wife about what really happened that night long ago. The guys ass that he had beaten ran the group home Adonis was at before he was adopted and was abusive. During the fight one of the guys friends jumped in and Damian pulled a gun and was arrested.

Damian and Adonis finally have their big fight which Adonis wins. I did not like the way this was done. It was all artsy with the ring turning into a prison cell and I know what they were going for but I would have liked to just see a brutal ass fight like the previous movies. This one was reaching for something it wasn't capable of fully delivering on. Its one of those “I appreciate the effort” type things. This movie had the best rival in Damian and a deeper story but felt rushed to get to the big fight. Damian was the true hero of this movie. Better than part one or part two though.
