The Review: Watchmen Episode 3

Episode 3: She Was Killed By Space Junk

This episode was all about Laurie Blake and it was an episode I didn't realize I needed. I know what I think of when I think of Watchmen and her character of Silk Spectre is not that thing. I never wondered what happened to her even after this show started. But this episode shows that not only is she alive but she is a damned federal agent. It starts with her robbing a bank and a vigilante appearing and whipping ass. She reveals herself to be an agent and they capture the guy as protesters say he is a hero. She is asked to head to Tulsa and handle the murder of Judd (the captain that got hung). She hates people in masks so it makes a good mixture considering who she was and what her mother was. During the visit she quickly figures out who everyone is under their masks. She talks to Mirror and knows who he is. She easily figures out that Angela is Sister Night and wonders why Judd's body was buried so quickly as the investigation is still going. Likely cause he was on drugs. Laurie spends most of the episode talking to a phone that is supposed to be connected to Dr. Manhattan telling him a long joke about god using Ozymandias, Dr. Manhattan, and Night Owl as examples.

At Judd's funeral one of the Kalvary shows up. Son of a bitch dug a hole through the cemetery and emerges with a bomb strapped to himself. He takes a hostage and Laurie shoots him dead with a gun she snuck in. The bomb is set to go off so Angeles dumps his body in the grave and pushes Judd's casket on top of it just as it explodes. Later Laurie finds Angela and starts to threaten her since she knows who she is. Angela is not threatened at all and leaves her alone. Laurie ends up sleeping with an agent she brought along instead of using this massive Dr. Manhattan dildo. That thing was startling huge! The dynamic between Angela and Laurie was so damned cool. I was like “If they fight it is gonna be insane!”

Adrian Veidt is finally revealed to be Ozymandias which was the worst kept secret. He made some contraption that had a rope attached to a weird suit and launched one of the clones...somewhere. It comes back dead and he is pissed. He goes hunting and is stopped by someone called Game Warden who sends him a letter threatening retaliation if he continues breaking the rules. Adrian gets excited about a challenge and puts on his old costume and is set for a fight at midnight. It appears that he is a prisoner wherever he is. I am not quite sure what is going on with his situation but I am very interested.

After finishing her joke at the end of the episode Laurie hangs up not thinking that Dr. Manhattan is even listening to her calls and never had a sense of humor so would not get her joke. As she leaves the booth a car drops out of the sky and she looks up and there is a red light in the sky. Laurie starts laughing as the episode ends. This show is making a lot of questions but the way it is all being handled it keeps me from being frustrated with not getting answers. So far three episodes in and each one has been really good. Yeah, I'm still shocked at how good this series is.
