The Review: Inside Man

Inside Man 9/10

A few days ago I decided to watch the movie Inside Man. I have only seen this one time previously and liked it a lot considering it is a Spike Lee movie. It is my favorite from him because it doesn't feel like one even though he does that stupid camera trick at one point. This movie is a great cat and mouse game where neither one of the characters is quite a cat or a mouse. Just when one thinks they have the answer the damn question gets changed. This guy named Dalton Russell introduces himself to the camera explaining that is committed the perfect robbery. He and his team all going by variations of the name Steve dressing as bug killers and locking up the bank. Though the lead robber is polite and will only beat that ass if you seriously get out of line they do make everyone strip and put on the outfits they are wearing and set them up in different rooms. They do this cool thing where the movie is cut with interviews with the people who were held hostage.

Detective Keith Frazier and Bill Mitchell are in charge of the negotiations with the robbers. Frazier is already in some shit from missing money from a previous case and he wants to clear his name. The robbers get pizza delivered by the cops and they know the boxes are bugged. The guy that owns the bank calls in Madeleine White who is a bad ass problem solver. He has something in that bank that he does not want found and is willing to do anything to keep it from being found. Madeleine calls in the mayor and gets carte blanche to be involved with negotiations. Frazier gets to go inside the bank to make sure hostages are not hurt and then tries to tackle Russell. Russell then has the police aim one of their cameras at the window and executes one of the hostages. Shit just got real! The cops are like “Fuck this dude. We shooting to kill!” I loved this sequence by the way. They showed all the ways shit could go sideways.

I don't want to explain anymore of this movie in case some of you have not seen it. The music is really good. This had a cool ass soundtrack. I loved the acting and how natural it felt and read that a lot of it was improved. It felt that way but not in a bad way. Even knowing that the main guy gets away with his crime somehow did not take away from any of the suspense I felt while watching this. Check it out on Amazon if you feel like seeing some cool shit from years ago.
