The Review: The Boys S2E7

 

"Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker"

Another crazy ass episode with a lot of stuff happening. I would have been screwed if I tried to cover this whole season with one post when it finished. This starts with a guy that worships the Supes. He wakes up, goes on walks, watches TV, and he is just filled with nothing but propaganda about how it is up to people to stop super terrorists. One day at the store he sees a guy and thinks he saw light in his eyes. He builds up the courage and pulls a gun on the guy asking if he is a super terrorist and if he is bullet proof. He shoots the guy in the face killing him. Meanwhile Homelander and Stormfront are at a rally saying they need more Supes to fight for America. Stormfront sees her grand-daughter and gets a sad face. Homelander is like “Lemme show ya somethin'!” I was like “Aw, fuck.” They end up heading to Becca's place where he introduces Stormfront as his new girlfriend and he wants her to be friends with his son Ryan. Becca knows that this can not end well in any way.

The Boys are watching Lamplighter. He has agreed to testify against Vought. Butcher gets a call from his mother that his dad is dead so he leaves. Frenchie and Kimiko bond while on surveillance. Mother's Milk lets Mallory know that he is seeing this trough till the end and she tells him there is no end and he needs to be with his family. Hughie is left to watch over Lamplighter who wants to spend his time watching The Seven based porn. Maeve's lady says she can not stay with her and Maeve gets mad and flips a table. She later sleeps with some guys and Ashley walks in pissed and says it is not in brand with the character they are building for Maeve. Maeve asks her to pretend to be a fucking human being for once. Starlight meets with her mom for coffee and her mom says that she asked for Starlight to get some time off. She doesn't know that Starlight has removed her chip and can't be tracked by Vought and is hiding. Boom! The whole place is gassed, Black Noir bursts in and knocks Starlight out. She wakes up locked in a room with a green glow and no access to her powers.

Homelander and Stormfront hold another rally where they send thoughts and prayers to the clerk that was murdered. They also say that there was a mole in The Seven and it is Starlight and they have caught her. He wants her dead. I do recall Stormfront saying that Starlight was gonna be useful one day. Hughie sees this on the news and fights to convince Lamplighter to go to Vought Tower and save her which is a terrible idea. Lamplighter's hand still works as a way to get in and he stops to look at The Seven statue to confirm he was replaced. This fucker sets himself on fire! For anyone wondering why he died, he can control fire. Not make it which would mean he is likely immune. Hughie has to saw his hand off (the least burned one) as a key to escape. He finds Starlight's mom and Starlight gets herself free since the power is knocked out from the fire and alarms.

Butcher meets up with his mom and she is like “Don't hate me.” His dad ain't dead but he should be. This dude is terrible. He says Butcher's brother was weak and is not tough like he tried to make them the way Butcher is which is why he killed himself. Butcher is gonna choke him to death but his mother stops him. Butcher sees that he is turned into his damned dad. At Becca's place Homelander is undermining Becca any chance he gets. She pleads that she does not want Ryan to leave and is trying to give him the childhood Homelander never had. Eventually he and Stormfront take Ryan to see the world which fucks Ryan's whole head up and he says he hates Becca and they fly away with him. Fuck!

Earlier Mallory went to talk to Vogelbaum who is the dude responsible for Homelander. He gives her nothing. Butcher shows up and threatens to kill his entire family in the most polite way possible. Oh, at the Church of the Collective party for the leader A-Train is still there. A-Train gives Deep a pet fish that knows his name. Adana says that he is meeting with Edgar to get A-Train and Deep back in The Seven. He also asks what they think of Eagle the Archer, the dude that brought Deep into the church. Deep lavishes praise on him until Adana says that Eagle is toxic and failed the church and none of them can talk to him ever again. Okay then.

Starlight is at the tower and gets leveled by Black Noir. They are beating the hell out of each other until Noir starts to choke her out. Maeve shows up, rips his mask half off, and shoves an Almond Joy down his throat. He has a tree nut allergy. That explains that scene where he went to “talk” to the lady and she offered him one and he held a trashcan up. Maeve doesn't leave with Starlight. The hearing finally starts and Vogelbaum is brought in to everyone's surprise. Just when he starts speaking heads start exploding. Like, literally! Heads are exploding, Deep is watching on TV and checks his own head, everyone starts running and sliding in blood. Ashley loses her mind. The Boys are watching in their hideout (with Starlight's mom) all in shock. But not Butcher. He didn't look as shocked or upset as I'd expect which makes me think he has something to do with this.

There is only one episode left in this season and I am still glad that they released these every week and kinda wish the first three were done that same way. I have no idea how the hell this is gonna end. Becca lost her kid. A-Train has a way back in with the other speedster having his head explode. Maeve needs to get her shit together. Starlight is obviously gonna be hunted down. Black Noir may or may not be dead. Lamplighter's dumb ass set himself on fire. I am hoping Cindy comes back and is not the one that made heads explode. This entire season has been incredible so far and I am hype as shit for the last one in a few days.
