The Review: A Thin Line Between Love And Hate

A Thin Line Between Love And Hate 7/10

This movie was crazy as hell. L. picked this one out for me to watch for the first time. This is about this dude named Darnell that is a nightclub manager that gives out VIP cards like free candy to women he wants to have sex with. Like, he got mothers, laundry workers, whoever. Even though he sleeping with all these women he still has a thing for a woman he knew when he was little. I think most guys do by the way. Her name is Mia and she is in the Air Force and home to visit. One day outside the club he spots lady who refuses to deal with him and his friend Tee's advances. He slips his card into her limo as she drives away.

He tracks her, Brandi, down by her license plate and heads to her job with a bunch of flowers so she has his crazy ass kicked out by security. He then sets up a meeting to buy a home to lure her there. She eventually gives in and they go on a date and horseback riding and they end up sleeping together. She confesses that she killed her ex husband who she says abused her while in the middle of having the sex. He fucks up and says he loves her when she asks. He don't. He and Tee made a bet on if he could get her in bed. This was a bad mistake.

She tells him to quit his job and she will take care of him. She buys him new clothes and on her birthday instead of being there with her he uses the limo and ends up having sex with Mia instead. She leaves a birthday cake at his front door. Then she amps shit up after he says that he doesn't want to be with her anymore and she agrees and says she was getting bored which hurts his ego. She beats herself up and says he attacked her. She puts a brick through his car. She somehow removes the wheels off his car in front of the police station. She sets the alarm off in the club. This woman is a menace!

One morning he wakes up and she is in his kitchen burning breakfast. He slams her against the wall and she is now in full nutty mode. She wanna kill Mia. Brandi has him tied up at her home and with a gun in his face beating the shit out of him. Tee and Mia head to Malibu to see what is happening. They get inside and Tee gets knocked out and Mia got a gun in her face. They end up tackling Brandi out the window and they all land in the pool downstairs. Brandi is arrested and Darnell wakes up in the hospital smiling like a goofball.

It took hurting and breaking a lot of lady hearts, being stalked, attacked, arrested, and damn near killed for this man to think “Maybe I shouldn't treat women like shit.” I liked this movie more because I wouldn't say he needed to die but he for sure deserved the ass kicking he got for the way he was acting. Not sure why Mia wants him considering the way he was but whatevs. In too many of these older Black movies dudes can be asshats and still win but at least this time he looked different at the end.
