The Review: Evil Season One

Evil Season One 7/10

A while back I started watching this series Evil after my friend suggested it and I checked out a couple of episodes before suggesting it to my lady. She started watching the show faster than me and I had to play catch up so we could watch together. This series is about a studying priest named David Acosta that checks out cases for the Catholic church seeing whether or not someone is for real possessed or just crazy. Dr. Kristen Bouchard is a psychologist that ends up working with David and balancing her insane ass life. Ben works with David and is skeptical as hell and helps with technical issues that comes up.

David

David is cool but can be frustrating as hell. Actually him and Kristen are constantly frustrating with not explaining what is happening to them or explaining it too late. He has seen/spoken to god before and wants that feeling all over again so he takes mushrooms. He ends up in some crazy ass situations X-Files style which is hard to accept as a grown ass adult. Like, he just seems extremely unlucky. This man gets stabbed, stalked by a demon helper, and stays in a hospital with a horrible nurse that tortures Black people. He ends up boning down with his dead wife's sister. He has a thing for Kristen (who is married with four children and got problems of her own). A dad who has multiple wives who are dealing with some demonic shit.

Kristen

She went from working for the courts checking out folks mental status for trials to getting attacked at night by a demon named George. Hell, her daughters start catching strays! Her husband who is climbing mountains is gone most of the series comes back and now has to deal with a wife he thinks is boning other men and his daughters being in eleven kinds of danger. Besides that her mother starts dating this demon helping asshole and her daughters get into danger constantly. They play a game with a ghost in a AR game and almost get buried alive. One of them has a heart problem. Another is here because of an IVF treatment at a place where evil sperm has been donated or something. Shits wild. They all talk at the same time. All. At. The. Same. Time. It gets annoying real fast. I could spend the rest of this complaining about her kids. Kristen waits too long to tell anyone about the strange shit that happens in her life. I can't even get into her mother too much because she is the worst. If my grandmama was like her I wouldn't have made it to age 4. Oh, and she possibly murdered someone.

Ben

I like Ben. He is reasonable. He calls bullshit on everything and when confronted by something that is actual demonic and spooky he reacts like I would which is to be like “Fuck this” and get away from it. Even when a demon talks through an Alexa type device about his sisters abortion he never brings it up again. He ends up on a Baggins type ghost hunting reality show and calls bullshit on everything and is right. I like him the most out of everyone in the crew.

Leland

I have mentioned someone working with demons. That is this guy. His mission is to spread as much misery as he can by getting killers free and instigating violence. He starts treating this one dude and slowly builds him up into this psycho incel who ends up blowing his brains out after Leland spent a lot of time working on him. To commit mass murder. He starts dating Kristen's mother and proposes to her and making her do evil shit which affects the little girls. He ends up taking Kristen's old job and getting crazy people free. Kristen looks up his past (like waaay late in the series) and knows he is just some regular ass dude which upsets him and he goes to see his therapist that appears to be a goat demon.

I will eventually start the second of four season of this show but don't wanna rush through it. This is not a rush through kinda show. I know I complained a lot but I did like this and want to know how it ends. The daughters will likely stay annoying. I wanna know if Kristen stays with her husband because there is zero chemistry between them. I wanna know if the grandmother gets her shit together. I wanna know if George is gonna keep coming back. Will there be more lawsuits brought against the church. Will they ever show David's dead wife. Just random stuff I'm curious about.
