The Review: Bloodhounds

Bloodhounds 8/10

I saw a clip from this show online and was like “What is this?!” Found out that it was Netflix and decided to watch while I still have the service considering I forget it exists. This show kicked all kinds of ass for the most part. It got weird (for weird life reasons) towards the end and I could tell that they had to pivot in a large way. This is about this kid named Gun-woo that is a fucking amazing boxer. He fights amateur and is taking everyone out with one punch to the kidney. He is also good at blocking which is very helpful as the story goes on. He ends up facing this guy named Woo-jin who is also very good and ends up beating him. Woo-jin is tough. He actually got up after the first knock down. Later Gun-woo meets Woo-jin and asks if he wants to get something to eat. These two become the best of friends!

Gun-woo's mother is losing money at her cafe and signs a contract with some loan sharks. It is Covid times and every small business is suffering. She keeps it from her son though. They end up scamming the shit out of her and she cant pay them back so they trash her shop. Gun-woo shows up and pieces up a dozen men all by himself until he faces this tank of a man who puts him on his ass. The main boss of the bad guys slices Gun-woo's cheek and lets him live letting his mother know that she needs to cough up the cash. Gun-woo ends up getting a job guarding his grand daughter who has a mission of her own. She doesn't want any protection and Woo-jin is also tagging along bugging the hell out of her.

They discover the huge scheme that is being run on hundreds of people and decide that they need to bring this guy down. We discover that the guy that hired Gun-woo used to be the big loan shark man of the shitty and gave it up to help people and one of his men stabbed him in the spine and he was tossed out a window. The rest of the show is getting revenge until suddenly the tone shifts a bit. The boys are buffer as fuck and the grand daughter is gone and there is odd humor placed in and a new girl character. The season ends just okay but didn't live up to what this started as.

I really enjoyed this show. I would have liked more boxing in the ring. What do I sound like complaining about street fights being plentiful? The tone changed towards the end which made me drop this a few points. The acting in this was great and the fight scenes were remarkable. I like when people get hit and don't bounce up like nothing happened. When they get bruised they are bruised episodes later. They are sore. They learn from their mistakes. They also realize that they are using boxing rules against pipes, knives, and choke holds and start training MMA style. There is another season but I am not sure how quickly I'm gonna leap into it.
