Swapped 8/10
Spoilers!!! Last weekend L suggested this movie Swapped. I had never heard of it and chances are wouldn't have even checked it out because as I always say, it takes a lot for me to get into new animated movies. So glad we watched this one. This is about this little critter called a Pookoo named Ollie. He and his mother, father, and grandma live on this little island. Since he was little Ollie has been curious. Like, way too curious. Dangerously curious I would say. His father is like “Don't trust anything because everything will try to kill you!” He was super right by the way. His grandmother tells the story of how everyone lived together and these giant tree creatures called Dzo showed up and gave everyone the ability to be what they wanted. A firewolf showed up and started killing and burning them all.
One day Ollie is almost eaten by this big lipped fish and his father saves him. His father is like “Stop trusting things!” One day while gathering food for the island Ollie meets this little bird and teaches it how to open the nuts. The baby bird is like “Hey, everyone! Free food!” The island is ravaged by these birds and as time passes everyone starts starving and dying. Ollie's dad wont even look at him anymore. Ollie decides he needs to save everyone and uses glass shards to scare the birds away. He ends up falling in a hole and touches this glowing pod that turns him into one of the birds. They want to take him back to Javan island (that's what these birds are called) and Ivy decides to take him. They meet this fish named Boogle who tells them where more pods are. Ivy ends up becoming a Pookoo. They find more and both end up becoming fish. They escape rock bears and tree wolves and with the help of Boogle end up finding more pods. These pods are located in dead Dzo. Ivy becomes a bird again and Boogle gets to decide what he wants to become and this is when L and I lost our minds!
I am not gonna spoil the rest of this but safe to say we were very shocked. This is a cute ass movie. I know some reviews make it seem like it is too strong in its message. I disagree. These days people need things in their face with no room for interpretation. More people do need to get along and work with one another. The animation in this worked well and I was genuinely rooting for the animals to win. I liked that it was not predictable and the ending made me happy. We watched this on Netflix.
