Is God Is 9/10
A few weeks ago L and I watched this movie called Is God Is. This is one of the movies I wanted to watch when it was in theaters but never got around to it. This is about these twin sisters named Racine and Anaia. One of them gets called ugly when they're children and the other sister gets up and just starts beating the hell out of these kids. We fast forward to them as adults and they get a letter from their mother. They thought their mother had died in the fire when they were little which is why each of them have burns on their faces, arms, and back. They go and meet their mother who they call God and she lets them know that they need to go and kill their father who did this to them. Anaia is the more squeamish of the two of them and has no idea how they are going to try and kill someone. Their mother reveals that injuries to her body which we don't see but it is enough to convince them that, yeah, they need to kill their father.
They end up finding this woman named Divine. She was the next woman that their father got with after setting their mother on fire. Divine has a weird ass son named Ezekiel who worships the father. Divine says that after she got pregnant that the father took off and they have not seen him since. Divine is a weird biblical woman and she gets upset when the daughters get on her for staying with a man that they knew was abusive. Racine ends up stealing a wallet from Divine which is discovered as they are walking to their car. They use an address from the wallet and it was the lawyer who got their father off. This man is very weird and they walk in on him getting beaten by a woman. He pays her and she leaves and the twins want to know where their father is. This lawyer has his tongue ripped out so he's not saying anything and writes everything down on a dry erase board. He lets them know that after he got their father off that the father ripped his tongue out. He also warns them that the father has twins.
As they are heading to go find their father and these twins somebody on a motorcycle chases them down and destroys their cars engine. It turns out that it's Ezekiel and they trap him inside of a barn. We get to this super nice house and there's a lady who is the new wife. The house is kept up immaculately but she's doing random weird things like peeing inside of a spray bottle and spraying it on her husband's glasses. She has a plan to finally get away from this man and as she's driving away the twins are blocking the road by sitting in the middle of it. They end up beating and killing this woman after she tries to pay them off to get out of their way and insults them and their mother before spitting in Racine's face. Actually it's Racine who does most of the violence in this using a sock with a rock inside of it. Anaia begs Racine not to kill this woman and she doesn't but I think the lady ends up dead anyway. They get to the father's house and his twin sons are there assuming that these two women are strippers for their upcoming birthday.
The twin girls play along until one of them insults Anaia for her burns. While Anaia is talking to one of the twins who doesn't want to participate in the strip show and bonding with him Racine leads the other into a room where she ends up slicing his throat. The twins friends see him bleeding and they all leave. The other twins sees his dead brother and starts laughing and crying. He starts choking Racine and deny ends up stabbing him with some scissors. Eventually their father comes home and Racine is still unconscious as an eye drags her around hiding. Their father knows that they are there and is slightly upset at one of the twins being killed.
He starts bonding with Anaia and I was just thinking this man is going to do something dangerous. Anaia lets him know that he's going to be a grandfather because she is pregnant with this guy that she was messing around with. He asked her how far along she is and then after letting him know he starts beating her Racine finally wakes up and they both end up beating him and knocking him into a bathtub and setting him on fire the same way he did their mother. All of a sudden he Michael Myers style jumps out of the flames and drags Racine into the flames with him and dies. This movie ends with Anaia talking to her future child about her sister. This movie was crazy. There was some shaky special effects used but I really enjoy a revenge story and this movie was so much about revenge. I enjoyed the acting, music, in the way everything was shot. This is one of those movies I would definitely check out randomly again.
