This movie was so honked up. L suggested this after seeing the recommendation so we checked it out. Neither of us knew anything about it. No trailer or anything. From the image on HBO I thought it was an alien abduction film or something. Oh, that would have been so much easier to watch. They take you into space, shine lights on you, maybe play with ya bootyhole a little bit, and then drop you off back on Earth with a story no one will believe. This starts off with some grainy footage in Russian with a lot of children and adults being touched and god knows what in what appears to be a ceremony. Like, none of those looks okay so I knew we were in for some weird cult type shit.
These two teens named Andy (17) and Piper (12 or so and severe vision issues) come home from school and find their dad on the bathroom floor with the shower running dead. They are sent to an agency that plans on splitting them up but they want to stay together. They end up at this lady Laura's house. She is weird as hell from the jump! I told L that I would have been trying to escape within ten minutes of arriving. Oh, and especially after meeting another kid that lives there named Oliver. This boy be squeezing cats. Killing chickens. Staring at you like he wants to squabble. These are all his default settings! Turns out Laura had a daughter that died who Piper reminds her very much of.
They head to their dads funeral and Andy don't wanna look at his father. Laura is like “Funerals shouldn't be gloomy! Kiss him!” She does like all on the lips. Shits creepy. Stop touching dead people at funerals. And taking photos. If you take a photo of a body at a funeral you going to mega-hell. Oh, and Laura snips a lock of the fathers hair. After the funeral Andy tells Laura how their dad was abusive as hell and beat him but never let Piper see or hear any of it but loved Piper who was the daughter of his second wife. Laura says that her daughter died from drowning in the pool that is outside.
Andy is left alone with Oliver and offers him some cantaloupe. He says that Oliver needs to use his words to talk to him and Oliver takes the damned knife that the fruit is on and starts deep throating it! He is chewing on the blade long-style! Andy takes him outside to take him to a doctor or something and they cross this white line that is painted along the property. Oliver starts screaming and yelling and then actually says “Help me.” Laura comes back home and gets mad at Andy. Turns out that Oliver had written bird on the paper Andy gave him. She starts rubbing Oliver's head in a circle and he is mute again and gives him some of Andy's dad's hair. Andy, who at this point has pissed himself in his sleep and sleeps far too hard hallucinates seeing his father saying that “She'll die in the rain.” Andy freaks out, falls on the back of his head, and ends up in the hospital.
This information comes from reading online and is not said in the film. Oliver is possessed by a demon that Laura summoned by watching them Blockbuster videos. The plan is for Oliver to eat pieces of Laura's dead daughter that she has in a freezer (she actually had Piper touch it!) and then he throws it up into the newly dead body of someone who died in the same manner of the person you wanna bring back. So, yeah. Boy gotta toss his cookies into Piper whom Laura plans to kill the same way her daughter died. Craaaaazy bitch! Andy comes back from the hospital and Laura puts his body spray on herself and punches the shit out of Piper while she is sleeping! She blames Andy and says he is dangerous like their father was. Oh, and she was pouring her own pee on Andy while he slept. She takes Piper to her gaming practice and prepares to finally do the evil deal.
Oliver wants some soul meat. This boy is eating kitchen counters. Starts ripping pieces of his own arm off and chewing it. He attacks Laura and bites the shit out of her. Andy goes back to the agency that set him and his sister up with this nutjob. The lady there says that Laura worked there for twenty years and was one of the best. Andy like “Ya girl crazy!” Andy sees a missing child poster and Oliver is on it! His real name is Connor Bird which is why he wrote “bird” on that paper earlier! Andy leaves Piper this long voicemail telling everything about how shitty their dad was, how he (Andy) would hit Piper out of jealousy, and warning her about crazy pants but Laura hears it. Oh, I forgot to even mention that stuff. This lady has zero boundaries! She looked at his text messages earlier saying how weird her place was. Has access to Piper's phone. Goes in and out their rooms while they sleep. Got them drunk as hell. So anyhoot, Andy and the lady (Wendy) come back to the house but Laura cleaned everything up after Oliver went on a chewing and throwing shit spree. Everything looks all normal and then Wendy sees that Laura's arm is bleeding. Laura is like “Oh, okay. So I plan to bring my dead daughter back. Cool, right?!” Wendy breaks free and she and Andy see Oliver chowing down on Laura's dead daughter. Just when she is about to get to her car Laura rams the shit out of her and Andy with it. Wendy super dead. Andy is hurt but could possibly live. Not so fast, Laura says! As he is laying in a puddle she turns his head and drowns him. Andy dead.
Laura picks Piper up and Piper's coach is like “What's with her eye?” and Laura is like “Mindyabizzness!” and rushes home. She gave Oliver some Andy meat so he can imitate Andy. Laura finds Andy's body in the bathroom and Laura explains her plan. Piper shoves her and then immediately knocks herself out running into a wall. Laura takes her to the pool and starts drowning her while Oliver is licking his lips. Piper refuses to die and calls Laura “mum.” Now Laura got a conscious and Piper gets out of the water. She makes it to the road and stops a car. Oliver makes it past the white line and the demon leaves his body. Police show up and Oliver is able to say his real name. Police surround Laura who is now cradling her freezer burnt ass daughter. The end.
This movie was batshit crazy. It had some gore I had never seen before and a lot of disturbing scenes. Every time Oliver was on screen it made me uncomfortable. He was like a loaded gun sitting in the middle of a room. The acting was good and so were the scenes. Wish the demon body takeover stuff had been explained better at the beginning because those VHS scenes made this look like a whole different film was about to happen. As I said to L after this was over I don't have any friends that I could suggest this to. If you think Sinners or Weapons is a hard watch this movie would send your ass racing to church.
