The Review: IT Welcome To Derry Episodes 1 & 2

IT Welcome To Derry Episodes 1 & 2

This show crazy as hell. So far within the first two episodes its better than the movies were. I would say they have more time to flesh out the kid characters but...yeah. Not so fast. It starts in 1962 with this boy named Matty that snuck into a theater. He gets chased out and this girl who works there with her father doesn't rat him out. We find out more about her later. Matty escapes and starts hitching a ride. A family picks him up and seem nice. Like, way too nice even for the 60's. Its a mother, father, son, and daughter. The boy is spelling shit. The girl is being weird trying to make Matty smell her liver fingers. The mom starts calling the daughter a hussy. Its weird. Matty asks to get out the car and the mother goes into labor and gives birth to a damn bat baby that starts flying and screeching around the car! This is the last we see if Matty...alive.

Four months later this Major named Leroy Hanlon arrives and is reintroduced to racism American style. This one asshole won't salute him. He is waiting for his family to arrive. He also gets attacked and grilled for secret information during the night. This little girl named Lilly is mourning the death of Matty while these boys Teddy and Phil do nerd shit. Phil doesn't want to talk about Matty and they discuss how they treated him like shit while he was around. Lilly (who was previous in an asylum because she lost it after her dad died in the pickle factory) hears singing coming from a drain and hears Matty's voice. She tells the boys who don't truly believe her. Mostly Phil. Later that night after bringing the missing kids up to his family Teddy gets attacked by a lampshade made of human skin!

Lilly and the boys (and Phil's little sister) meet up with Ronnie who is the girl that helped Matty escape and works in the theater. Her dad is being questioned by police for Matty's disappearance. They all end up at the theater and Ronnie plays the movie Matty was watching and his ass pops up in the film along with the family that picked him up! They start calling to him and he throws the bat baby at the screen and it is now in the theater getting larger! This thing rips them kids to pieces. Got me sitting here thinking these were the new cast of children to fight Pennywise. Nope! Had us sitting here getting attached to victims. Lilly gets away while still holding onto the little girls severed arm. Its pretty honked up. This show is great.

In the following episode police talk to Lilly about the fact that everyone knows she used to be in an asylum and she could be blamed for murdering the kids. Ronnie confronts her in the cafeteria about not telling what she actually saw. Ronnie had a rough night. Her grandmother had her sent back to school and she was laying in bed when suddenly the sheets toured to a giant heart she was trapped inside. She bursts free and looks up and its her mother who died giving birth to her. She says it is Ronnie's fault for ripping her open. Using a massive umbilical cord she starts pulling Ronnie towards her stomach filled teeth until she chews herself free. The shit was wild.

Lilly ends up telling the police just not enough to get Ronnie's dad arrested. She goes to the grocery store and she doesn't notice the aisles moving and creepy ass shoppers looking at her. Next thing you know she is locked in an aisle with the jars of pickles taking on the form of pieces of her father and trying to lick her. It was gross. See, she had told Matty about what happened to her dad. She forgot something at his factory and he went back to get it and somehow fell into the machine. One of the boys earlier said pieces of her dad was in the jars. Yeah. So here were are with this nightmare fuel. She wakes in the real world with a smashed jar and a grocery workers asking her what the hell is wrong with her. Lilly's mom sends her back to the mental asylum as she begs not to go. It sucks but I am still kinda mad at her cause Ronnie's dad is locked up for a murder he didn't commit.

Major Hanlon's family arrives. His son is super smart and one of the most likable characters on the show so far. He gets in trouble for showing up late and blamed for blowing up a stink bomb. He meets Ronnie in detention. Hanlon's wife walks around town and notices that something is off. A group of boys attack one boy and no one bats an eye. She stops the attack and the boys escapes just to be chased some more. Some Native Americans watch as the military continues this strange digging. Dick Hallorann (the old dude from The Shining who is younger here of course) has been helping to locate something that can stop wars before they start by spreading fear. Hanlon is part of this because after an accident during the war he has no fear and is perfect for using this weapon when they find it. They end up digging up an old military vehicle full of dead bodies.
