The Review: Thunder Force

Thunder Force 6/10

Why did I laugh so much at this movie? I didn't know Thunder Force even existed but L. and I tried that weird Pick For Me option on Netflix and landed on this on the third try. It might have had to do with the fact that we had recently watched a trash ass movie on Amazon. This is about how some cosmic rays ended up giving people with a tendency towards being a sociopath end up getting superpowers. This young, smart girl named Emily whose parents were killed by one of these super-powered beings called Miscreants vows to one day find a way to defeat them. She meets a girl named Lydia who sticks up for her in school and they become friends. Later as they grow up they split since Lydia plays too goddamn much and Emily is focused on studying.

Years later Lydia decides to visit Emily who she has not seen in years at her lab/office/home (I think). She spills her drink on Emily and is left alone and ends up in a chair that injects her with something that Emily has spent years creating. A series of injections that will create a hero to fight the Miscreants. So now Lydia got powers and goes through training which was funny. Emily has a treatment too but its just pills and not a living hell like Lydia has. Emily can turn invisible and Lydia is strong as hell. They are trying to take down a criminal with powers known as Laser. She, like, uses electricity. She is being fronted by a dude that calls himself The King. He is running for mayor and has powers. Not quite sure what they are other than red eyes and being strong.

The rest of the movie is pretty predictable but still fun. The best scenes are with the bad guys. The Crab is funny for so many wrong reasons and seems like someone who would have worked perfectly in Deadpool. Just the way he looked supplied most of the laughs in this. I laughed every time he ran out of a room sideways. This was a silly ass movie but I won't watch it again and am not sure who to suggest it to. I have seen after watching that a lot of people hated this movie. Not sure exactly why. I have seen plenty of hateable films just last year but this isn't one of 'em.
