The Review: The Girl With All The Gifts

The Girl With All The Gifts 8/10

There will be spoilers. I watched this movie called The Girl With All The Gifts after seeing it on a list of tings that I should have watched and my cousin Jasmine happened to mention it to me so I decided to check it out. This movie is really good. Just full of me shouting at the screen! Yes, this is a zombie movie but its not like the dozens of other ones that have come out in the last ten years. This movie had me wondering what the hell was happening from the very start all the way to the end of it which was cool because sometimes when something is zombie related you find out how it started and its stupid or you find out it will never end ever and you call it The Walking Dead. Seriously, how are you people still watching that shit? There is a fungal disease that is affecting the world and turning folks into zombies aka “hungries.” There is no cure. Just don't let 'em get their juices on you or bite you and you're fine...ish.

This starts off with this little girl in a cell just setting herself up in a wheelchair all excited. Her name is Melanie and she is played by Sennia Nanua. Glenn Close as Dr. Caroline Caldwell comes down the hallways checking on the kids. Melanie is wheeled into a classroom with a bunch of other kids who are all strapped down to their wheelchairs. A teacher named Helen Justineau played by Gemma Arterton is pretty damned nice to these strapped down kids. The teacher unstraps one of their hands and has them all write stories. Melanie writes a sad story that makes the teacher cry and Melanie apologizes. Helen comes over and touches her head which causes a guard to rush into the room with his gun shouting at her for touching the kid.

At first I was like “What's wrong with patting a kid on the head?” Well, this guard Sgt. Eddie Parks played by Paddy Considine shows me why. He spits on his arm and rubs it before just sticking it in a kids face. At first the boy just stares at his arm and a few seconds later and then starts ticking. Then his jaws start clicking and he starts growling and trying to bite him. The other kids around him start wilding the fuck out too! Keep these kids locked up! Later Dr. Caldwell comes by and asks Melanie for a number between 1 and 20. Se says 13. Next thing you know that numbered I is missing from class. Later that night she is asked for another number and she says 4, her number. She is wheeled into a room to have her damned brain removed! The teacher comes in right before its about to begin and then all hell breaks loose.

Zombies have broken down the fences and have gotten into the facility. See, they were gonna experiment on Melanie because she is part of the second generation of zombies. You do not want to know how she was born. In the chaos Melanie gets to sink her teeth into some soldiers in full zombie mode. Still, the teacher thinks she is fine and will not the her get hurt. The doctor has been hurt by a cut or something and I am waiting for her to zombie out but she doesn't because that shit works fast. One soldier gets bit and he is like “I'm fine. Look!” and then starts freaking right the fuck out. I don't want to give away the ending because I want folks to be as surprised as I was by all the crazy shit that started happening. Check this movie out. Its pretty damned good.
