The Review: Hunt For The Wilderpeople

Hunt For The Wilderpeople 9/10

Spoilers ahead. Well, what the hell? I have heard of this movie Hunt For The Wilderpeople for a few years now. I was hunting for something to watch after a marathon of watching Uhh Yeah Dude because they dropped a bunch of episodes on Youtube for free. I have seen the directors movies. Some of them. Loved What We Do In The Shadows. Loved Thor Ragnarok. Gonna watch Jojo Rabbit soon I assure you. Just never really looked for this movie until it popped up on Kanopy. Oh, Kanopy. Its a free movie site available if you have a library card. That and Hoopla. And in case you didn't know you can listen to and download songs through Freegal with a library card. Shout out to librarians. So yeah. I watched this movie and loved it. This is about a bad ass kid that gets dropped off in the middle of nowhere to live with this nice lady and her husband who wants nothing to do with this kid. She ends up passing away and that shit caught me super off guard. I assumed I knew how this movie would go and had no idea.

The kid decides to run away after the old man lets him know he doesn't want him and that he can go back into the system to be adopted. He decides to burn a fake version of his body, escape with his new dog Tupac, and be on the run. He is found easily by the guy because the boy has about as many outdoor survival skills as me. The older guy ends up breaking his ankle when he tries to attack him for making fun of the fact he can't read. The authorities think that the old man burned his place down and kidnapped the boy which starts a surprisingly funny manhunt. The police are after them. Hunters are after them. A misunderstanding paints the old man as a pervert. I thought this movie would be cute maybe and a little funny. I was sitting here cracking up laughing at this damn movie. There were some actual sweet moments in this too. It was nice to see some familiar faces pop up. Loved this. If you get a chance to check it out do so.
