The Review: First Christmas

First Christmas 6/10

This movie was okay even though I still experienced rage while watching. This lady named Halle that was given up for adoption as a baby is a successful author going through writers block. She gets an invite to see her family for the first time in New Orleans. Her actual father has passed away and she is sent a DNA kit to use and confirm her heritage for a letter from his estate. She is hesitant but decides to give it a go. She gets a phone call from her grandmother aka Memaw. She heads to New Orleans and meets a bunch of confrontational psychos who are her family.

She is picked up by this guy named Devin who has a terrible fade. Every male in this movie has a terrible haircut. Its insane. She meets the children her father had named Tiffany and Glenn. Tiffany is mean for no reason and Glenn is not bright acting. The lady her father married is Joan and she has a son. The new siblings go to lunch and Halle lets slip that Joan knew about her but it wasn't her place to talk about it. Tiffany is upset. Tiffany invites Halle to a ugly Christmas sweater party but its not really so Halle is ashamed. Joan gets mad at Halle. A lot of this movie is Joan snapping at Halle, Tiffany being trash, Memaw staying out of it, and Devin wanting to smooch Halle.

At a will reading Joan is upset she isn't in charge of her late husbands stuff. Joan snoops and finds things Halle write about the family thinking she will use them in a future book. Yeah, Halle revealed she is a well known writer and that pissed everyone off even more. Halle decides to leave and stays at a hotel until Devin finds her and brings the family and they apologize. A nice dinner is made and everyone promises to not be such shitbirds. I liked this movie mostly because the main character didn't suck and the stakes weren't about making a meal from a dead person or having to run a business. Oh, one funny thing about Memaw. I have been randomly watching In The Heat Of The Night when I am with my lady and saw Memaw and said "Isn't that the lady from the show?" and it was. Except now she is naturally older and not wearing bad aging makeup.
