The Review: Hang Em High

Hang Em High 8/10

Last night I felt like watching something I have not seen. I started watching the Westworld movie from the 70's and stopped because I was bored. Same when I tried watching the series. It made me wanna watch a real Western so I watched Hang Em High starring Clint Eastwood. Holy shit this was good. I sound like one of those kids that just discovered Michael Jackson or Bruce Lee. This is a tale of revenge and you all know by now that if something is about revenge I am all up in it. This takes place in 1889. States ain't even all states yet. Eastwood as Jed Cooper is herding cattle when this group of guys roll up on him. They accuse him of murder and he explains that while he knows who they are talking about he did not steal his cattle or kill anyone. This is the 1800's and people barely knew how to act human let alone how justice worked so they end up hanging him and stealing his saddle.

Surprise, bitches! He ain't dead. Well, he was dying because he was being hung but this guy comes along and cuts him free. He is then thrown into the back of a wagon with a bunch of other criminals and taken to a town that is all about hanging folks. The judge there loves the shit. He finds out that Jed is innocent but doesn't want him to get revenge. Pffft! He decides to make Jed a marshal and get the guys legally mostly just to have folks to hang. Jed finds the first guy who pulls and gun and gets shot six times before he hits the ground. He starts finding more of the guys that hung him. Some run, some are like “Shit”, and one feels bad because he knew Jed was innocent. Jed bones down with a lady at a brothel but likes this lady who checks the guys being brought for hanging hoping they are the ones that killed her husband. One day Jed gets fucked up and she gets him healthy again. He spends most of this movie hurt, sunburned, or shot.

Jed starts to realize that the judge in town is a scumbag and just wants to hang people and make Oklahoma a real state because it isn't yet. Jed wants to leave and do whatever the hell men did back then which seems to be what he is doing now but being paid less. Jed ends up ready to quit when he gets the warrants for two more of the men that hung him and gets his badge back. I liked this movie because during some fights scenes there was no music and it made it feel better even though when guys were punched they flailed and it made me laugh. I plan on watching some more of these movies and I blame watching too much Red Dead Redemption 2 videos for this.
