Casting Slouch: Rachael Ostovich as Wonder Woman

I continue to recast the DC films. I already did Batman and Superman and now it is time to tackle Wonder Woman. There was the old Wonder Woman series with Lynda Carter and as far as looks go and having the character of what I'd like Wonder Woman to be she is the best. After that there was the terrible ass TV show they attempted. If you have not watched it you can find it online just to laugh at what they thought could pass as a watchable show. On the Justice League cartoon series they did a really good job of showcasing her. I want to figure out a way to make her character not come across as weak as she has been portrayed at times or as bland as she was in the Wonder Woman movie. Seriously. She was pretty lame.

Rachael Ostovich as Wonder Woman Born: February 21, 1991 Hawaii Height: 5'3”

Ostovich is an MMA fighter for the UFC though she has fought in other organizations and is an expert in judo. I first saw her on some list of the hottest female fighters and thought there was no way she could kick ass and keep her face looking like that. I say that as someone who grew up watching fighters, men and women, that started off fighting looking one way and ended up looking like monsters by the time they were done. I figured she either had maybe three fights to her name or just never got hit. Turns out I was wrong on both counts. She has had eight professional fights and six amateur fights. That may not sound like a lot but I know there is a lot of training and shit that goes into fighting. You won't see many mixed martial artists with records of 97-6 like with boxing. They have maybe two fights a year and all it takes is one bad night to end your career. Being a fighter is bullshit when it comes to making money and having a good support system. By all accounts Ostovich has bad both her entire life. She had a father that fought as well as her brother. She also has a daughter.

After listening to some interviews to make sure Ostovich was the right choice for Wonder Woman I also watched some of her fights. And by the way, I did not use Pixlr to do the images of her in Wonder Woman gear. She is a huge fan of her and I am a fan of Wonder Woman fans. A while back I drew an updated Wonder Woman and she had MMA gear on because you can't have her running around in draws and a bra anymore. Looks great in comics and in theory but in reality if she had the outfit on up top I wouldn't be mad. She would have the lasso and the bracelets but she wouldn't be using them to block bullets all the time. And that would be something she finds out she can do on accident. Oh, and I want to bring the tiara as a boomerang back. That shit was cheesy but looked cool.

When Wonder Woman is done she is usually used one of two ways. They make her an idea that seems too barbaric and slow and constantly talks about how stupid mankind is which does nothing but make me wonder why she won't go back home. Why save what you don't like? Or they make her very naive and dangerous. I want her strong as fuck. She has been around since the 1940's and has been inspiring women ever since. Batman knows who she is an stays the fuck out of her way. Superman knows who she is and she has made attempts to contact him but he is nervous. They aren't in this movie. It is mentioned at some point. There have been no intergalactic threats where there needed to have been a team up. Now onto Diana.

When she ain't Wonder Woman she is Diana and that is super rare. It is a name only those she is close to knows. She doesn't run a business and is not distracted by a love interest. Steve Trevor was it and he died of old age by the time this story takes place. I want her character to be pleased with things humans take for granted like running water and candy. I want her to have traveled all around the world and learning what humans are like good and bad. She feels bad for humans and does not understand why wars are fought the way they are and prefers up close battles with swords and fists. And there is not a single moment in this filmed in slow motion. Not one. And I want her to have a hair trigger temper. If she is insulted she will quickly demand answers. I also want her to be fun and have fun when she does things. I'm not talking about fun as in having some classic rock blaring as she kicks over tanks but laughing and smiling as she is flying. Wonder Woman ain't been fun in years.
