The Review: Ozark Season 2

Ozark Season Two 10/10

My body was not ready for this! This will have some spoilers. This season had some many twists and turns and surprises that I wish I had done a recap of every single episode to have been more thorough. The first season of Ozark was amazing and the second did not disappoint. What I love most about this show is that no one feels safe not even the main characters. If you watched how the last season ended then you know that just when things feel like they are falling into place and there can be a moment of peace so crazy shit is about to take place. As nutty as the first season was now that everyone is established I knew they were gonna have to up the ante for this one to even come close to the first. They did. I've never yelled at my TV so much while watching a show.

The season starts off with a body being buried. The Byrde family is balls deep in this now. There is no more playing innocent when you just watched some guys get murdered feet away from you. The Snell family is not trying to play nice with anyone and if their honor or respect is ever questioned or they feel offended they will lose all their shit, especially the wife Darlene. She is dangerous as fuck. The guys that were murdered were very important so the cartel sends Helen Pierce from Chicago to check things out. The Byrde's lie until she and her henchmen investigate and people just start dropping like flies. Helen never gets her hands dirty which somehow makes her scarier. She demands that something needs to be done but is not specific so Jacob, the elder Snell, murders one of his own in a very brutal way and they bury his body. There is a plan to put a casino on the Snell's property. Jacob is kinda on board in a way but his wife is like “Fuck that. This is our land. Never!”

Now that shit is supposed to be built the Kansas City Mafia are involved and unions on top of crazy ass hillbillies, cartels, criminals, and the police. Wendy Byrde starts to get in close with a senator and is now introduced to a high stakes game at a whole new level. This entire time I am wondering just how badly they do not want to be involved in this life of crime. I mean, just when they start to get some footing so squirrely shit will happen and they end up deeper in a mess. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Rachel, who took the money and ran last season, ends up high and drunk and crashing her car. Next thing you know that cop Roy shows up and turns her into an informant. He gives her drugs he steals from a drug dealer and jerks off listening to tapes of an informant that is now dead. This dude is a fucking creep.

The kids are starting to get in on the dirt. Jonah opens an account under an alias and starts laundering his own money. Charlotte, who took the money in the first place starts stealing shit, getting high and drinking, and ends up wanting her emancipation from the family. Ruth is trying to deal with her father who is now free from prison and trying to keep the fact that she murdered her uncle under wraps. Her father figures it out and holds it over her head whenever he wants something from her. He is a shit bird. She is trying to save up money to get her cousin away from the family that he thinks is cursed to be a failure.

There was a lot of character growth on this season which I appreciated. The mom got hardcore as hell even though at times I asked “What the hell is she doing?!” You get to see how people react when they are pushed to their breaking point. Some of them snapped and screamed while others powered through in very surprising ways. People died that I did not expect to. Others did things I did not think they were capable of. This entire season kept me on my toes which I was happy about. I am excited to see maybe two more seasons of this because this can not last, meaning this family, at the pace they are going. If you liked the first season I expect that you'll like this one. I liked this better than the first.
