The Review: Cabin In The Sky

Cabin In The Sky 8/10

I completely forgot to write a review for Cabin In The Sky after L. and I watched. She reminded me and I was like “Yeah, I did!” but checked and sure enough. Nope. This movie is about this guy named Little Joe so you know he is trouble. His wife Petunia wants him to be a better man because he likes loose women and gambling with dangerous men. He ends up shot because he owes money to people that don't play and dies. Some angels come to visit him and say that he has like six months to get his shit together or he will be sent to hell. He starts to clean up his life but on the other end of this is Lucifer Jr. who keeps throwing things at him to try and tempt him.

Joe ends up winning the lottery and tempted away by Georgia Brown...which I kinda get. Like...yeah. The fact that she is even chasing after this man is insane to me. Maybe folks were way different back then. So he is now with Georgia and leaves Petunia. Joe is spending all the money and buying Georgia whatever she wants. She shows up at the club and is dancing with the guy that killed Joe and acting eleven kinds of sassy. She also knows she is entitled to some of the money Joe been throwing around with his cheating ass. Petunia is so over Joe's nonsense that she ends up praying to God to destroy the club. Well, this woman has the most powerful prayers in the universe because a damn storm comes out of nowhere and the club is hit by a cyclone but not before Joe is shot and killed again. This man needs to learn how to duck. Oh, and Petunia ends up dead from the cyclone, too.

So now Joe is about to get take to hell when the angel says that Georgia was so hurt by the tragedy and Joe dying that she donated all the rest of his money to the church. This crazy ass loophole means that by proxy Joe did a good thing and he can now go to heaven with Petunia. But...Petunia wished for a storm that could have killed dozens of people. Ain't that a bad thing?! Either way they both start walking up the stairs to heaven which seem way too long. But it was all a dream!

That's right. Joe wakes up in bed from the first shooting and decides that he is going to change his gambling/woman chasing ways. I was like, damn. Even in his dream world where his soul was at stake he still decided to treat Petunia like trash. She was way too good a woman for him. This was a good movie and had a good message about not being a trash person. I just thought it was funny that both the sides of heaven and hell were playing games and bending the rules. I also laughed at how strong Petunia's prayers were. Like, this woman had super powers!
