Who Is The Best Batman?

I love Batman. I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m not talking about any particular version of the guy. The idea of Batman makes me happy. And vengeful. There’s no doubt that he has had an impact on my life. As a child I used to pretend I was Batman and would jump off my Grandmama’s porch banister into a shopping cart, slamming my knees and ankles, holding back the pain and waiting for my cousin to shove the cart while imagining flames shooting out the back. I am surprised that my knees don’t look like a game of Jenga. Adam West’s portrayal was my first exposure and will always hold a special place in my black heart.

And don’t get me started on the Batmobile. This thing is still one of the coolest vehicles ever designed and if I was one of those people that just had money to wipe my ass with I’d own it. I wouldn’t own it and leave it in the garage for friends to look at. I’d drive it around and hit the turbo in school zones because I believe the children are the future and the future makes me scared and nervous.

Theater Whore: The Dark Knight Rises

I was finally able to see The Dark Knight Rises! I called Parker who had already seen it and told him that I had to see this movie. I got tired of seeing all the reviews that I had to dodge and shows I like listening to attempt to spoil the movie. So we headed to The Grove and watched it. I was so happy leaving the theater. I have been hearing complaints about there being too many characters, Bane was no Heath Ledger, and even complaints about Catwoman’s outfit. I will not sit here and bitch about Anne Hathaway in a tight ass outfit.

Fap.

I’m not gonna describe what this entire movie is about because, seriously, it has a lot of stuff going on. I was happy seeing Bruce Wayne portrayed as a recluse. This takes place eight years after the last film and the city is doing much better after the death of Harvey Dent/Two-Face. Gordon has a huge case of the guilties and almost reveals the truth behind what happened with Batman and why he vanished. Wayne ends up meeting Selina Kyle who steals a pearl necklace from his safe and escapes. Alfred’s relationship is covered more deeply in this movie as well which is cool because you finally get to see just how much he cares about Bruce.

Theater Whore: Savages

Full disclosure. The first thing I said after this movie was done was “What a waste of time that was.” I wanted to see this based purely off of the poster. Yes, I know that’s silly but I love the way those skeleton masks looked. Savages was the first Oliver Stone film I’ve wanted to see in years so I said fuck logic and watched it. I wish I hadn’t because I can not get those two hours back. Yes. This was two hours long. About fifteen minutes of it was supposedly cool looking shots that Tony Scott would be proud of and lens flare that JJ Abrams dreams of.

Chon is played by Taylor Kitsch (John Carter, Battleship) who is a war vet and his best friend is Ben played by Aaron Johnson (Kick Ass) is a smart pot grower. That’s it. There’s really nothing deeper to these two. And Blake Lively as Ophelia is their girlfriend/fuck pillow. Seriously, this chick bring nothing to the story but a hole for these guys to stick their junk in and motivation for murder because apparently there is some shortage of dumb White chicks that I’m unaware of.

Theater Whore: The Amazing Spiderman

If you’re a White guy with long blond hair you better be on the lookout because The Amazing Spiderman is coming for you! “Spiderman! Spiderman! Removes his mask because he can!” I already know that someone reading this is saying “Tobey McGuire took his mask off in his Spiderman movie on a subway full of people!“ to which I say “His mask was on fucking fire!“ This was a two hour movie and by god did I feel every second of it. I didn’t stick around for the extra scene after the credits.

This movie took everything I like about Peter Parker and wrecked it for a new audience. I like the nerdy and awkward Parker. Not this…asshole they replaced him with. He’s not a particularly pleasant guy. His Aunt May and Uncle Ben seem like they love him but just met him from the way they act. Peter’s parents left one night and never came back presumably because they knew their son would grow up to be a dick.

TV Slut: Sherlock

I started watching the Sherlock series from BBC which continues to put out amazing series such as Luther and Being Human. D & H got me into this show which I had kinda heard about but never made any real effort to watch. What I know about the character of Sherlock Holmes is from random information as a child like “Hat, pipe, Watson, English, Moriarty, some dogs in Baskerville, and magnifying glass” and the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films. So when I started watching the series I didn’t know quite what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it is!

Sherlock is a dick. Seriously, this guy is not someone you’d want to be around in real life. If you were you’d punch him in the neck. But he is good at his job and has shown that he has the ability to fight so maybe throat chops wouldn’t be a good idea. He calls himself a “consulting detective, the only one in the world.” When the cops cant figure out cases they call him. Some of the cops hate him which of course he doesn’t care about one damned bit.

Theater Whore: Beasts Of The Southern Wild

There’s a little girl, her father drinks a lot, and there’s a supernatural element.” That was Cam’s description of Beasts Of The Southern Wild and I’ll be trying my damnedest to come up with a better one. This is one of those movies that makes you remember why you love going into a theater and paying money to forget the world for an hour or two. it’s the story of a little girl called Hushpuppy who lives with her dad Wink in this place called The Bathtub. Its in Louisiana where they are on the other side of a large wall where Wink does not want to move from.

Wink treats his daughter pretty harshly but he’s always reminding her that its for her own good and that he isn’t always going to be around to protect her. Where they are is a small community but they have a lot of fun. Hushpuppy says that they have more holidays than anywhere else in the world and they party and drink and have parades. Though their living conditions are pretty damned bonkers they get by just fine. Wink starts getting progressively sicker and this angers Hushpuppy and makes her sad at the same time but the rule is to not cry. Even when someone dies there is no crying allowed.

Theater Whore: Magic Mike

I celebrated the 4th of July by watching a bunch of half naked and in some cases completely naked men dancing on stage. This isn't something I did in real life. I watched the movie with Cam at the Arclight over in Hollywood. I wasn't dying to see this but heard from some reviews that it wasn't what I was imagining when I pictured what the movie was. That's half a lie because I saw more man than I could've begun to imagine!

That's a lot of man!

In the theater were a few gay male couples and one poor woman who couldn't find a friend who left halfway through the movie. Magic Mike is the story of Mike who is a male dancer by night and a bunch of other things by day. Mike wakes up in bed with two women and is embarrassed when he and one of the women he is sleeping with cant remember the other girl’s name. While working construction he meets this kid named Adam who gets in trouble for stealing a soda from the site and whose car breaks down.
