Spider-Man Brand New Day 7/10

So I just watched the latest Spider-Man. Three people I know told me that I needed to see this movie and I was on the fence about it since I first saw the trailer. I tend to judge these movies based on how many goosebumps I get and I didn't get any watching it. The main reason is because of that Doomsday movie that's coming out later this year. To me there are no stakes because people can be brought back from other realities or just brought back to life. I used to read comic books all the time and I know that this happens in those, but with the films I actually like that there seem to be some form of permanence with these characters deaths. For as sad as it is that Aunt May died in December we can see her come back to life. So while watching this movie I did enjoy it but there was just a cloud of doubt that anything that actually happened in his film would have stakes.

Masters Of The Universe 10/10

Spoilers. I know that I am writing this review based off of a lot of my own personal feelings and I super don't care because I got to see a cool ass He-Man movie that had everything I wanted and more. As a kid He-Man was one of my favorite cartoons. I had random toys (Ram Man being the best one) and have made dozens of Perler designs from the series. Dressed as Skeletor for Halloween once. When I was little there was a movie made and even back then I knew that movie was ass garbage from a human butt. So when this was fist announced I was nervous and then I saw the trailer and got all kinds of hype about it. L. and I went to see this at The Grove which I had not seen a movie at in a lot of years. And why I was there I managed to get a Skeletor bucket and He-Man cup that will be displayed. Should talk about the movie some.

Weapons 9/10

This movie was crazy as hell! I had seen the trailer for this but thankfully avoided any spoilers for it which if you are reading this you have already seen it because this will for sure have spoilers. The way this story is told is through the point of view of multiple people. It gets to a certain point then stops and continues with someone else. The basic premise is that this 3rd grade teacher entire classroom full of students except for one boy don't show up for school one day. They all ran out of their homes at 2:17am and no one knows where they have gone. Shits spooky. The parents are saying that the teacher, Justine Gandy, knows something and are blaming her for the missing kids.

Sitting In The Aisle: The Fantastic Four First Steps

The Fantastic Four: First Steps 3/10

So I finally watched this. I was excited when I first watched the trailer but then Thunderbolts (which I watched and haven't written a review for because it would just be me hating for a paragraph) ruined my excitement. I don't have a lot to even say about this. I have seen every Fantastic Four movie and even made a post about who I would cast (click here for that). I didn't hate the Trank one as much as others because at least it was different but in hindsight my score for it is a bit higher than it should be. What I was hoping for was for this to be a fresh start in the MCU but then saw that they are being dragged into the current universe which for a while now has been rough as hell. From movies to series they have been pumping out more things I couldn't finish or plain disliked.

Sitting In The Aisle: Superman

Superman 10/10

Spoilers. Finally! A good Superman movie! I have watched every Superman film. I made a list years ago of who I thought the best one was. I watched the cartoon in various forms ranging back to the damn 1940s. I am a huge Batman fan but have always hoped that a Superman movie would give me the feeling that the animated series in the 90s did. When I heard that James Gunn was writing and directing this I got happy and knew I had to see it in a theater because that man has the ability to make me give a damn about characters I didn't know existed or barely cared about. The fact that I liked Superman and Clark Kent equally was a fresh feeling. I sat in that theater feeling like a damn kid experiencing this character for the first time.

Sinners 10/10

This is one of those movies where I want everyone to see it so I don't wanna spoil it too much but even after being out just a few days there is a lot of reviews where the title of the posts give it away. So this will have spoilers but I wont and wouldn't even be able to describe everything that happens in this incredible movie. Sinners is one of those movies that gives me feelings that I get from watching a movie every few years. One of those movies that makes me think “I'm glad a theater is a thing.” My lady already wants to watch it again and so do I in one of them big ass IMAX theaters.

Before seeing this I had seen a trailer and thought it was a movie about a bunch of people fighting vampires in a bar. I also thought this would easily have been a Jonathan Majors movie. I was wrong about each of these because Michael B. Jordan was prefect in this and it does not take place in a church...but it does start and end in one. Young Sammie aka Preacher's Boy walks into his father's church covered in scars and blood with his father telling him to put the guitar (which is smashed to shit) down. Then we go back a day or so to meet twins Elijah and Elias aka Smoke and Stack. I shit you not, I forgot their actual names. They plan on using money they got from Chicago to open up a juke joint. They purchase the property from a racist ass dude named Hogwood.

Sitting In The Aisle: Deadpool And Wolverine

Deadpool And Wolverine 10/10

This will be full of spoilers! I fucking loved this movie! I managed to dodge spoilers for this and was so happy I did and if you don't care about them then keep right on reading. I loved the previous Deadpool (click here and here for those) movies and was into the comic crazy style back in the day. Funny enough, I was not a huge fan of the X-Men movies in almost all of the forms they came in. I was never super attached to Wolverine in the movies and seem to be the only person that didn't like Logan. When he died I was like “Can we get someone else to play him now?” But for some reason I was invested in him in this movie. Maybe because it was an alternate reality version of him and didn't have all that baggage from the other films. I will say I wish that Domino and Cable showed up. But still. Its crazy I have given all three of these movies a 10/10.

A Quiet Place Day One 8/10

It has been so long since I have seen a movie in a theater and I have missed it so much. L. and I tried out the new Landmark near me that changes to something else every few years. I have zero complaints about the new changes inside because them seats felt great and the popcorn was very good. Just confused about having tickets taken or purchased in the same spot as buying food. Super bottle neck because of that. I should probably talk about what we watched. It was A Quiet Place Day One. I have not seen the first movie but watched so many reaction videos that I feel like I have. I did see the second film and liked it though I had questions that after seeing this one will never be answered. I will try to explain why I feel this way later.

Sitting In The Aisle: Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume 3

Guardians Of The Galaxy Volume Three 10/10

I fucking loved this movie. Let me get that out of the way. L. and I saw this in theaters because there was no damn way I was not going to. It also made me feel human emotions three times as opposed to the previous films that almost got me once each. This picks up after the holiday special (which I watched and didn't write about) so now we know that Mantis and Peter Quill are brother and sister because their father, Ego, boned literally everything. Peter is still torn up over Gamora being from a different timeline so she doesn't have any emotional connection to him and barely one with her sister, Nebula. Adam shows up after being hinted at in the previous movie and starts wrecking shit immediately. Peter is drunk and ineffective, Drax gets whooped, Nebula can't stop him, and Rocket gets hit so hard he is dying. The team tries to save him but he has a fail safe in his body where if someone tries to save him he will straight up die.

Sitting In The Aisle: Ant-Man And The Wasp Quantumania

Ant-Man And The Wasp: Quantumania 8/10

So here is my late ass review for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. I had not seen a Marvel film in theaters since 2020 so I was super excited when L. and I went to go see this. I like the first Ant-Man okay but wasn't a huge fan of the villain but seem to like Ant-Man more as he popped up in other films. We were mostly excited to see the villain Kang the Conqueror in this because when he popped up and Loki it was incredible. This movie is about parents in their relationships with their children pretty much. I know that sounds weird but it makes sense.

Nope 9/10

Spoilers! I was finally able to go see a brand new movie in a theater!!! Took three years but it happened. L. and I went to see Nope at the AMC on Sunset and since it is one of my two favorite theaters I was very happy. So with a belly full of Pinche's Tacos we went to see the movie...after half an hour of trailers. AMC needs to chill on that. So this movie starts on a old TV show set with a chimp straight up murdering people while someone watches from under a table. A balloon popping set it off and it went bananas. Ha. The monkey, Gordy, goes for a fist bump from the young boy, Jupe, that is watching and then gets its head blown off. They show that later on though.

Sitting In The Aisle: Morbius

Morbius 3/10

This could have been so cool. I will say that it was much better than either of the Venom films. This is the story of a young boy with a blood illness named Michael Morbius. A new kid joins him at the hospital and they bond for life. As an adult Michael is a doctor trying to find a cure for this disease. He finds it in the form of bats and while offshore experimenting because this shit ain't close to legal it works but turns him into a monster that needs to feed off blood to survive. His friend Milo from when he was little is like “Can I get a taste?” and Morbius is like “No. Sure, it made me buff and have superpowers but its the worst!” Milo steals it as Morbius is framed for murder. I mean, he did kill some folk but not the one he was arrested for. Lots of flying in cool ways ensues as well as some uninspiring fight scenes and some end credit scenes that baffled the fuck out of me.

Spider-Man No Way Home 9/10

I'm not gonna spoil Spider-Man: No Way Home. I had some stuff spoiled and it sucks because I am good at avoiding that stuff but with this no matter what channel or site I was on names and characters would pop up. I will say that this movie managed to be better than I thought it would be considering the amount of just....everything that it had to do. This had to cover so much ground in terms of story, characters, resolving of battles, and tales that will lead to future films. There is only one reason why I didn't rate this a 10/10 and I can't even get into that right now. I will do a follow up review after this starts streaming and more people have a chance to check it out. I will say that I thoroughly enjoyed this and when it streams will watch it a few more times because I know there is a lot of detail I missed. This was my favorite Spider-Man movie but not my highest rated.

Sitting In The Aisle: Nightmare Alley

Nightmare Alley 8/10

My first Sitting In The Aisle in over a year! Last week L. and I went to the Hollywood Legion Theater after finding out that they play movies. This is also how we got to go to the Hollywood Heritage Museum the following day. They had a deal. As for the movie, Nightmare Alley, there was a double feature but we ended up not staying for the second movie since it was already 10pm by the time the first movie ended. I'm old. Leave me alone. So this movie is about this con man that works for a traveling carnival named Stan. This is a straight up carny place with a geek that bites the heads off of chickens, a psychic, and strong man. This lady named Zeena who is the psychic has a drunk ass husband Pete that she always has to look out for. This girl Molly tells Stan about how Zeena and Pete use codes for their psychic act which makes him immediately want it to make more money. Stan tries to wine and dine Zeena which works. This dude can talk his ass off. One night Pete's drunk ass has been cut off from being allowed anymore liquor when he stumbles upon Stan. Stan gives him some and the next morning Pete is dead. Turns out Stan gave him PURE alcohol which is in the exact same bottle as his moonshine. Zeena was just gonna send him to rehab the next day.

Sitting In The Aisle: Bloodshot

Bloodshot 4/10

Almost everyone had a weird voice. That is the first thing I am gonna say about the Bloodshot movie. And this is gonna be full of spoilers which sounds weird even saying because the trailer shows the entire movie. While watching as soon as I saw certain characters I thought “Oh, he is gonna fight him because I saw it in the trailer even though they are teammates.” As much as I loved that trailer I did not expect it to spoil so much of this film. I used to read Bloodshot comics and even got some autographed years ago at Golden Apple. I wanted this to be an awesome ass movie but it just was not. The story was terrible but what kept bugging me was the use of slow motion way too much. Using it when nanites are repairing him, fine. But almost every fight scene uses it. And I understand not being able to die die. But you were a very good soldier. There is no need to just stand there eating bullets especially when there is actually a limit to your abilities. I am jumping ahead of myself.

Sitting In The Aisle: Doctor Sleep

Doctor Sleep 9/10

Full of spoilers. Why haven't more people seen Doctor Sleep? Why aren't you all talking about how damn good this movie is? I did not expect a ton out of it and did not expect to like it as much as I did. I watch horror films but never actively seek them out. I have read the book, I watched one of the mini series, and I have seen The Shining. While this is a sequel to The Shining, both the film and the book, it creates it own thing as well that I'd actually like to see happen in the future. I would love to see the young actress star in everything. That girl was so damned good in this. And the villains. Holy crap the villains. These were some spooky ass people. This is about three stories that end up colliding.

Sitting In The Aisle: The Cave

I can't give this a normal rating like I do with other films. I went to AFI Fest with Coco again. We do this every year and I told her “We are gonna see some sad ass movies...” Well, we saw The Cave which was very sad but had some humor in it and I genuinely loved seeing the way the hospital staff worked together. Some scenes reminded me of when I would get trapped in the emergency room when I worked at the hospital and there would be shouting, bleeding, and everyone needed to be a well oiled machine to save lives. Except I have never in my life had to worry about a jet dropping bombs on where I was working. Holy shit, the bombs in this documentary.

Sitting In The Aisle: Parasite

Parasite 10/10

The hype you have heard about Parasite is worth it. I made sure not to know anything about this movie going in and saw it with Sarah today. I was not planning on heading out to see this anytime soon even though I love a few of the directors movies. But we headed out and holy shit this movie is good. I am not gonna spoil anything in this review because I would love for people to just go see this and take it in without a lot of knowledge. I will say that the story is great, the look is amazing. Dirty things look disgusting and clean things look brand damn new. Everyone was perfectly cast. I can not imagine someone seeing this and going “It was okay...” I probably wouldn't see a movie with someone again that didn't love this actually.

Sitting In The Aisle: Terminator Dark Fate

Full of spoilers. This movie has no heart. There. That's all I should write. Terminator Dark Fate is one of those movies I see and after it is over ask myself “Why was this made?” That is worse than a movie just straight up being garbage. If a movie is garbage I will at least feel something even if it is anger or annoyance. Hell, it could be garbage but funny. But this movie is just a series of explosions, bad acting, and things being told/barely shown that would have been an even better movie. Let me get this shit off my chest real quick because it is a complaint I have had with every Terminator movie after T2. And forget everything else about any film after T2. None of them count or matter according to this. They pulled a fucking Halloween.

Sitting In The Aisle: Joker

Joker 9/10

This was was amazing. Let me say that first. Joker immediately became one of my favorite movies this year for a lot of reasons I'll cover later. This is gonna be full of spoilers by the way. There has been so much controversy about this movie and how it may inspire violence. That seems more like a society problem than a movie making problem to me. If you have built it so that if someone with a mental issue has access to get a weapon and use it on others that does not mean you ban every movie where violence can occur. Did people ban Amy Schumer films after Trainwreck? Shit happens. It sucks but that's just the way things are sometimes. Shit happens because some people suck. The theater I went to was more than half full on a Tuesday afternoon at 2pm and they even clapped when it was done.
