I
recently saw the Joker movie starring Joaquin Phoenix. I loved the
movie and it got me to thinking about a previous blog post I did
years ago where I ranked the best portrayals of the Joker in film. As
I was reading it I realized that it had been six years since I wrote
that and in that time there has been two more versions of the
character to make it to film. Everyone immediately thinks of Heath
Ledger as the best to ever play the character. I like that he is such
a strange character that has no set in stone origin that as long as
you can make it funny, weird, or entertaining I'll watch it. Just
make sure his hair is green, his face is white, and he is scary. So
in this post I am gonna add to the list. Click here if you want to
read that and realize that this post is gonna have spoilers for the
latest Joker movie.

Who Is The Best Spiderman?
On
paper Spiderman seems like he'd be one of the easiest comic book
characters to make a film of. A high school student bitten by a
radioactive spider gets super powers and uses the to fight crime
after the death of his Uncle Ben while keeping it secret from his
Aunt May. To me the most difficult part would be the actual look of
them swinging on a web through the city special effects wise. And I
am not including the mad for TV version from 1977 where he had salad
strainers over his eyes sometimes and mirrors others then shot two
inch thick ropes at folks.
The
third film version of Spiderman recently appeared in the new Captain America: Civil War film which means that I can now judge which of the
three is the best one. I am going to start a new system introducing a
Defining Moment for the character in the movie that either made or
broke them.

Who Is The Best Incredible Hulk?
Everyone knows who The Incredible Hulk is. I'll go out on a limb and say that he is probably one of the top five most known comic book characters in the world. There's Batman, Superman, Green Lantern, Flash, and Hulk. Sad. Just realized that Hulk is the only Marvel character on that list. Not my problem. I decided to take the four live action versions of Hulk and see which one was possibly the best. I say that but don't actually make a decision. That's for you, you big baby. I can't make every decision for you!

Who Is The Best Punisher?
In continuing with this series of blogs about Who Is The Best? I was trying to find a character that has been played by multiple people and it hit me: The Punisher. I've seen every version of the films based off of the character and none of them have been great. One was okay but none great. The best Punisher related film to come out was a fan film that you can watch on Youtube called Dirty Laundry. It isn't long but its pretty damned amazing. Kinda like my...tongue.
Since there have been only three versions made film wise this won't be as long as my other posts. Honestly, you don't need to read much about this character. Former war vet, family gets killed, he goes crazy, kills people that do bad. He's like Batman if Batman lost his goddamn mind. Which has happened in various comics and realities. A crazy Batman is good for no one.

Who Is The Best Superman?
A few days ago I watched the latest Superman film Man Of Steel and enjoyed it. It got me to thinking of all the guys that have played Superman in a live action movie and who was the best one? There are a few things that have to happen for it to be considered Superman and for some reason it doesn't always happen. He has to come from Krypton, fly, be hurt by Kryptonite, and look the part. Superman has a certain look that is mostly in the guy in the costume more than the costume itself.

| You don't count! |
Pictured is Tom Welling from the Smallville series. I'm not including him in this list for a lot of different reasons. He doesn't wear the costume until the very last episode of ten seasons of horseshit and even then it isn't a clear image of him. Plus he looks like he cries into pillows at night. Superman cant have that image, damn it! This is just the movies and one of the series because it actually featured a costumed Superman.

Who Is The Best Joker?
Portraying The Joker is a thankless job. You're gonna piss someone off no matter what you do. There have been a few actors that have played him and each has brought their own spin to it. For me the best was Mark Hamill's from the Batman The Animated Series. Maybe it has to do with the fact he did it so many times and it stuck with me but still, he is just incredible. Its hard to read a Batman comic book without using that voice in my head. I have come up with a list of four guys that have played him in film and television. I discovered that Booger from Revenge Of The Nerds played him in a commercial once!

Who Is The Best Catwoman?
This is Lee Meriwether. She played Catwoman in the 1966 Batman movie. I will not be discussing her in this blog. Why? Because she confuses me. I mix her up with another actress I’ll be discussing later and may very well have used the wrong picture when I get to her. Just like with my Who Is The Best Batman? blog I did, this one will probably cause lots of nerd rage.
The problem with playing Catwoman is that there have been some pretty strong performers so it’s an uphill battle from the get go. I’ve chosen five actresses and pick through them as Catwoman the character and Selina Kyle where it applies. Just because someone has cat ears and/or spandex does not make them Catwoman.

Who Is The Best Batman?
I love Batman. I’m not afraid to admit it. I’m not talking about any particular version of the guy. The idea of Batman makes me happy. And vengeful. There’s no doubt that he has had an impact on my life. As a child I used to pretend I was Batman and would jump off my Grandmama’s porch banister into a shopping cart, slamming my knees and ankles, holding back the pain and waiting for my cousin to shove the cart while imagining flames shooting out the back. I am surprised that my knees don’t look like a game of Jenga. Adam West’s portrayal was my first exposure and will always hold a special place in my black heart.
And don’t get me started on the Batmobile. This thing is still one of the coolest vehicles ever designed and if I was one of those people that just had money to wipe my ass with I’d own it. I wouldn’t own it and leave it in the garage for friends to look at. I’d drive it around and hit the turbo in school zones because I believe the children are the future and the future makes me scared and nervous.
