Hey. Listen. Hey. Okay. Watch this show. Season one was incredible and I gave it a 10/10. I have to do the same with this one because not only was it just as good but it may possibly be even better? Yeah. I think it was better. L. and I waited for this to come on every Sunday and got to the point where we ordered AMC+ just to watch the finale commercial free. The acting, clothing, story, scenes, just everything about this show is good and I have zero complaints. The even replaced Claudia and I didn't mind. I actually prefer this new one to the old. The fact that they managed to make this so interesting with minimum Lestat is a testament to how good the writing on this show is. This season starts off after the murder of Lestat with Louis and Claudia traveling Europe.
Daniel is interviewing Louis with an angry Armand sitting nearby. These are some of my favorite scenes and they get more uncomfortable over time. World War II is over and everything is jacked but slowly coming back. Claudia wants to find more vampires in the world believing that the three she has met can not be it. Louis keeps on seeing visions of Lestat so he kinda going crazy. They find some people in Romania that are worried about a vampire killing folks. Claudia gets hype about this! She goes off looking for it and finds this monster of a vampire and tells Louis about it and he doesn't believe her and is all in his head about Lestat.
Shit is getting weird. This dude from the Talamasca meets up with Daniel while he is out eating with Rashid nearby. They are a group that tracks and makes records of witches, vampires, and all manner of weirdness. Back at home Armand explains how he first met Lestat and they both created the vampire theater. Claudia wants to join the theater which Louis doesn't want her to do. Armand wants Louis to join the coven while his ass still hallucinating about Lestat and accidentally killed a guy. Santiago (who I have not mentioned yet but is the most charismatic son of a bitch ever!) wants Louis punished.
Claudia hates the role. She already hates that she is stuck forever in the body of a young girl and now she has to play a baby every night for years. She meets this dressmaker named Madeleine. Armand is like “This damned girl can not have mortal friends!” Santiago and the theater are getting sick of Louis special treatment and being able to come and go as he pleases. Santiago sneaks into Louis' place and finds Claudia's notes about their lives (another broken Law) and it has Lestat's last words.
Armand goes off to hunt this dude. He pays people to try and escape for fun. Daniel and Louis can now speak freely about what happened back in the 70's because the story keeps changing and there is a lot that's forgotten. Turns out not forgotten but erased. Between some files from the Talamasca and what Louis and Daniel can piece together Louis tried to kill himself by running outside into the sun because he can not deal with what happened to Claudia. Armand tortures Daniel and demands to know what makes him so special while Louis is screaming in another room.
Armand eventually places Louis in a coffin to heal while continuing to torture Daniel and almost kills him before Louis stops him. Armand lets Louis know that Lestat has been trying to reach him telepathically because Lestat could feel some pain from Louis. Armand refuses to relay the information to Louis. Armand arrives back home in present day all happy from his hunt only to walk in with Louis and Daniel staring at him like “What the hell did you do to us?!”
Daniel has another meeting with that dude from the Talamasca. Daniel is concerned with Armand and the guy is like “Its the other one you should fear.” Louis is dangerous. Is he though? Hell, yeah, he is! Back in the interview Armand and Louis are starting to go at it because Armand is hiding shit and Louis remembers some of what happened. Meanwhile in the past Santiago is letting the other vampires read Claudia's journals and she and Louis are guilty as all get out. Claudia is still hanging out with the dressmaker (who has a tragic ass past) and defends her when some guys attack.
Claudia and Louis are on trial for Claudia existing and for attempting to murder Lestat. Armand is being forced to watch from the crowd. Yes. They have a full audience watching this special daytime performance. Lestat is there giving his side of the story and it is different from Louis' of course. Every time they try to speak in their defense the other vampires scramble their brains. Claudia powers up and even with her ankles slit walks on stage and talks her shit.
Lestat goes off script multiple times pissing Santiago off. Armand is sitting there looking all innocent. Santiago asks what should be the sentence for Claudia and Madeleine. They shout death. Claudia says that she is going to kill them all in this life or the afterlife. She and Madeleine are placed in the middle of the stage and burned by the sun as Claudia looks to Lestat. Louis was dragged away, thrown into a coffin full of rocks so he can't move, and looked away to slowly die. The thing is, when the audience was asked what should be done with him they started to say death but stutter until saying banishment. Santiago and the other vampires are like “The fuck...?” Armand controlled their minds!
Louis gets freed by Armand (shaky ass lies) and sets out for revenge. He blows up some of the vampires and lures Santiago out by reading the fuck out of him. He is making fun of his real name and tiny dick. Santiago pops out the sewer and Louis is waiting with a scythe and cuts his head off them punts it. He then heads to Lestat's creators lair with Armand and knowing what I now know by the end of the episode I am shocked Lestat didn't cook these bitches. Louis is like “You gonna be lonely and me and Armand gonna be together forever!” Lestat is like “Okay...”
The interview is over and Armand is all smiles because they have been together 70 years. Daniel is like “You two look happy. I got some questions that are about to change all of that!” It is revealed that Lestat was the one that controlled the crowd to make them give Louis banishment instead of death. Daniel pulls out the plays original script and Armand was not some innocent victim forced to watch his lover be sentenced. Armand directed the fucking play! Louis was supposed to die but after he didn't changed shit up and made up a bunch of lies. Louis and Armand go at it upstairs with Louis tossing him into a wall and saying that Armand needs to leave and never harm Daniel.
Louis heads back to New Orleans and finds a vampire while he is taking a city tour. He follows him and finds Lestat in a raggedy ass house planning on touring. They end up reconciling with one another and it was very nice to see even though they both toxic as hell. Daniel goes on a talk show to promote the book and it is revealed that he is now a vampire as well! A bunch of vampires are on a psychic party line saying what they plan on doing to Louis when they find him. Louis shuts them all up and tells them where he lives, how many guards are there, and they can try him if they want. It was great.
This series is incredible. There are some shows that I look forward to watching every week but there was something different about this one. This shit was on a level that other shows can not touch right now. Every Sunday L. and I were locked into this and would have fun conversations afterward trying to solve mysteries. This is the best acted series on TV right now. I wish it had an even bigger audience because I get paranoid about it being canceled but there is a third season in the works. Check this out on AMC+ and forget how much you loved the books and movie. This is better than those!
