Documentality: Puppet Master/Tinder Swindler/Bad Vegan/When We Were Bullies

The Puppet Master 7/10

I watched a lot of documentaries over the last few months and forgot that I actually have a segment on this damn blog for them. So here goes. This one was about a dude named Robert Hendy-Freegard that managed to trick people into thinking he was a government agent. He would have them doing random tasks, stake outs for no reason, and getting money from their family's for years at a time. One dude he just kinda forgot about. It was fucking weird and went on for like twenty years. Watching these documentaries makes me realize that I am too un-trusting and way too skeptical to trust strangers. This dude is still free.

The Tinder Swindler 9/10

This fucking guy! This dude named Simon found women using an online dating app. He was taking them around the world, planning a future with them, and all manner of bullshit. He said he belonged to a rich family that dealt in diamonds and then he would start to talk about his “enemies” and then would come the kicker: he was being chased and his bodyguard attacked and needed money. This shit worked way too many times. This dude got so much money and did so little time for any of this. Matter of fact he is free right now and got an agent so...justice?

Bad Vegan 8/10

This story is about a successful woman who owns a business (and a dog) that falls into the arms and mind games of a strange ass dude that thinks he is on some special mission. She ends up taking money from loans, friends, and her business to run around with this crazy ass dude. She goes on the run with him and seems to not understand that she is actually on the run. This was one of the most aggravating documentaries I watched because I could see this from the point of view from the employees who just had to go on strike and wonder when they were gonna get paid because their boss was rolling with this guy that came out of nowhere. She does some jail time and right now she and the dude are free and giggling on the phone.

When We Were Bullies 4/10

This started off so well. This guy was doing a documentary about his old elementary school and talks about a time when he and his class pretty much jumped this one kid. He talks to past students who remember the beat down. He talks to his old teacher who doesn't recall it. The one person we don't hear from is the kid who was beaten. That shit changes you at a young age and I would have liked to know how the affected him. The ending made me just roll my eyes a lot. Thankfully this wasn't a full length documentary otherwise I would have been more upset.
