I have covered all the Daredevil seasons. Enjoyed season one a lot. Season two was good except anytime Elektra was on screen or ninjas. Third season made up for it. This new Disney+ version was a jambalaya of nonsense. They tricked me into having hope by making the first episode so good. They had Bullseye kill Foggy as Karen watched him bleed to death as Daredevil fought Bullseye on a rooftop. As he heard Foggy's heart stop he was like “Fuck it” and tossed Bullseye off the roof. He doesn't die though which is remarkable. This wasn't some two story building. He got tossed and landed chest first. He should at least be crippled. Nah. He alive. Goes to jail. Daredevil retires. By the way everything that I just wrote happened in the first episode.
The next six episodes are him defending a vigilante in court. He gets him free and he is immediately killed. He then has another bad guy named Muse that Daredevil doesn't bother with until he kidnaps the niece of the vigilante. Kingpin runs for mayor and wins and starts a vigilante task force made up of crooked cops. He also has this dude that his wife cheated with in a cage. There is a lot of things happening but somehow not anything at the same time. Each episode just kind of happened and I watched and felt like they were trying to do two shows at once and focused on the one that wasn't working. Turns out I was right.
The Kingpin stuff wasn't enough to keep me interested. Watching him and his wife in couples therapy felt like another show that I wouldn't watch. Daredevil and his new girlfriend felt weird. Punisher shows up a couple times and doesn't really go nuts until the last episode. Hell, even the way he fought the task force made it seem like he was either new to this or planned to die at their hands. Karen returns late in the season and it is just aggravating because the best episodes are the ones that feel more like the Netflix series. Meaning, its better when he is around familiar faces. The faces he surrounds himself with are not interesting at all. His new law partner and this retired cop are written like extras with lines.
I have read that this is just the first part of the season and right now they can keep it. I will end up just watching reaction videos to it if anything. There was not enough to make me want more of this or to see where anyone ends up. If the entire season was like three of the nine episodes my score would be way different. I'm sure some people really dug this series and are excited. I'm not one of 'em. I'm gonna keep watching that David & Goliath series on Amazon.
