The
Danish Girl 8/10
This
was the first of two films Cam and I saw during our annual Oscar
catch up. She said we were seeing two movies and I had no idea which
ones or what they were about. I knew nothing going in and this is fun
with her. The Danish Girl stars Eddie Redmayne and Gerda Wegener in
this semi-biography about one of the first transgenders ever.
Redmayne plays Einar Wegener who is an artist married to another
artist Gerda Wegener. He is very successful while she is trying to
get a show going but quite cant. One day she has her husband pose
because a model she is using is late.
Well,
Einar tries on these stockings and shoes and they next thing you know
he is wearing his wife's clothes to bed while they are having sex and
enjoying dressing like a woman that he calls Lili Elbe. Its cool for
his wife at first but then while at a party Lili ends up making out
with this random guy. Things get real weird after that. From there on
I had this mixture of being happy that Einar could be who he believed
he truly was as Lili and feeling terrible for his wife who was
watching her husband become another person but trying to be
supportive. This was a really good film and not playing in many
places at least at the moment. If you get the chance to see this you
really should.
