The Review: Runaways Season 1

Runaways Season One 2/10

So yeah. I just finished watching season one of the series Runaways. After ten one hour long episodes I still can't tell you what the fuck this show is about other than some uninteresting teenagers with slightly more interesting parents find out their parents are evil. Why are they evil? For some guy. Who is the guy? He was ashy and dying but now he isn't and wants to drill into the city. Why? Because there is a living rock or something down there. What does the rock do? I have no idea and neither do the parents who have killed over a dozen runaways through the front of a church to do so. Why are gang members involved? Because of Black father. Why use runaway children as victims? Because social commentary. I have never read the comic but knew it existed so I can't be happy or mad at how certain characters were portrayed.

The kids consist of a smart kid with glasses. He ain't got no powers. There is a goth girl who uses a staff that has magical powers. There is a jock dude who is really smart. There is a blond girl who can change colors and shoot beams of some sort. There is a little girl whose eyes change colors and she gets strong then falls asleep when it fits the story. There is a girl that can talk telepathically with a dinosaur. Don't ask. Don't fucking ask because nothing is explained this season. The boy likes a girl who likes him but ends up with a girl who likes girls but a boy likes her and ends up liking the girl that thinks no one likes her because she is an intelligent (snarky and annoying) girl. Maybe this was a ten hour trailer for the next season. Don't care. Won't be watching it. Just by looking at each character pictured and making a snap judgment about them you will have a 95% chance of being right. It was like every episode was written and directed by different people. The acting was nothing to write home about. The effects were shaky as was the camera work. Just ugh. I didn't give it a 1/10 because my dumb ass actually finished the season.
