The Review: Bloodhounds

Bloodhounds 8/10

I saw a clip from this show online and was like “What is this?!” Found out that it was Netflix and decided to watch while I still have the service considering I forget it exists. This show kicked all kinds of ass for the most part. It got weird (for weird life reasons) towards the end and I could tell that they had to pivot in a large way. This is about this kid named Gun-woo that is a fucking amazing boxer. He fights amateur and is taking everyone out with one punch to the kidney. He is also good at blocking which is very helpful as the story goes on. He ends up facing this guy named Woo-jin who is also very good and ends up beating him. Woo-jin is tough. He actually got up after the first knock down. Later Gun-woo meets Woo-jin and asks if he wants to get something to eat. These two become the best of friends!

The Review: It Welcome To Derry Episodes 5 & 6

It Welcome To Derry Episodes 5 & 6

Ooh, this one was a crazy one! Shaw finally tells Leroy what he plans on doing with the different pieces from where It landed that the Native Americans used to entrap him in the woods. He sends Leroy and a team to go into the sewers from that creepy ass house to go and do...something. Like I have said, this is a terrible plan. Meanwhile the natives are having a meeting talking about “Yep. Its about that time where this town loses its fucking mind.” Rose lets Shaw know this is a bad idea but this man is locked in on using Pennywise or whatever as a weapon of fear. Rose also gives her nephew a piece of the meteor as a weapon to use against Pennywise.

The Review: My Adventures With Superman

My Adventures With Superman 7/10

This cartoon managed to do something that every Superman cartoon and film have failed at: make Clark Kent interesting. Hell, they made Lois and Jimmy interesting! I'm serious, that is something that every other version of this could not do. If that new movie manages this elusive task I will leave the theater happy. This is the beginning of Superman's career as a hero and at The Daily Planet. Lois is also new as well as Jimmy. Clark struggles with new powers that just keep on happening (electrical ones, freezing scream) and figuring out his past as a Kryptonian and believing he was sent to take over the planet for his alien race.

The Review: The Caped Crusader

Batman The Caped Crusader 9/10

I didn't even know this show existed because Amazon just doesn't care sometimes. This should have been on Max because at least they show you new animated shows. I found about this from listening to a podcast and they raved about it. I was hesitant to check it out because there have been so many versions of Batman since the one I loved in the 90s. I would race home from school to catch it and even talk to friends on the phone while it aired. I was shocked when within minutes of watching this I was into it. The animation style. The voice work. The change of characters was surprising and didn't feel forced. Like, Penguin is a mother with children. Gordon and his daughter Barbara are Black. Alfred is younger. Just a lot of changes that were cool.

The Review: Gen V

Gen V 9/10

This is going to be full of spoilers. I checked out that show Gen V on Amazon which is a spin-off of The Boys. This show is just as crazy intense and at times gross as The Boys. If you are a fan of that series in the previous three seasons it has you should like this show. What I like is that these kids do not think these are god given abilities and know that at some point their parents, for whatever reason, had their children pumped full of chemicals for cash.

The Review: Interview With The Vampire

Interview With The Vampire 10/10

I have to admit that when I first heard from L. that Interview with the Vampire was going to be a new series with a Black man playing Louis I was very hesitant to even try watching it. By the end of the first episode I was addicted to this show. Just like with Wonder Years reboot showing that time period through the eyes of a Black child this series having it set in the time period that it's set in and it being in New Orleans it changed so much about the story that they could not have had a white actor the way they had with Brad Pitt in the film. Looking back at recaps of the season there's so much stuff that happened but it did not feel rushed.

The Review: Moon Knight

Moon Knight Season 1 (10/10)

I feel like every time I watch one of these new Marvel series that I end up thinking “This had no right to be as good as this is.” Almost no one knows who the hell Moon Knight is. I knew who he was but I wasn't a massive fan or anything. I knew he had powers associated with an ancient god and that he had multiple personalities. That is about it. I knew that the star of this would be good but not as good as he was. This about a guy named Steven Grant that works at a museum. At night he chains himself to his bed and covers the floor with sand, and tapes the door to see if he has left for some reason. One night he wakes up in another country and being chased and shot at. He experiences black outs where he will snap back and there is just carnage everywhere. He ends up finding out that he is living a double life where he is also Marc Spector who is a former mercenary and looking for an ancient relic in order to keep it from this guy named Arthur Harrow. Marc's wife shows up and she gets in on all this crazy ass stuff.

The Review: Reacher

Reacher 9/10

I loved this damned show. Years ago I saw the movies and was a fan of the first one but the second was trash. I started reading the books and had trouble getting into them because Tom Cruise looks nothing like the character. I can get past that a lot of times but the dudes size is such an important part of his aura that I would lose focus thinking of an actor to replace him with in my head. When they announced a series was coming and the author asked for ideas for the star of it I wrote a blog post (click here for that) of who I thought could pull it off. Well, they didn't pick who I wanted but they did a damn good job because I can't picture anyone else playing the role now. And thank god they didn't go with a young actor.

The Review: The Wheel Of Time

The Wheel of Time 9/10

Hey, book fans. I get it. I know how you feel when you read something and it is made into a movie or series and they change so much it doesn't make sense. It happened to me with Altered Carbon. I saw the first season, liked it, read the books and hated it. American Gods? Read the book, loved it, liked the show, read the book again, hated the show. But with Wheel of Time I had never even heard of the books and have zero desire to and the main reason is the people who actually have read the books. When Altered Carbon started its second season I didn't even finish the first episode because I quickly realized it wasn't for me. I wasn't gonna force myself to sit and watch a show I wasn't enjoying and had no hopes of it improving. I also didn't want to write about it every week or whatever about how it wasn't what I wanted and expected. I do that enough with other things. So when L. and I started watching this I was hooked immediately and some of it seems for reasons people were upset.

The Review: Hawkeye

Hawkeye 2/10

I didn't like it. That's all. Kidding. But not really. I did not enjoy Hawkeye as much as I expected to. Does it help that I absolutely loved every previous Disney+/Marvel series? It should've. They were knocking them out the park this year and this one started off with me being into it but as the main star Kate Bishop was older and acting like she was 10 and got progressively more annoying as the show went on I lost interest but kept watching out of a silly sense of dedication. Plus all the movies and shows are connected and I didn't wanna miss out on anything. Basically when Kate was little during the New York battle with the Avengers, Hawkeye incidentally saved her life. Her dad ends up dying and she and her mom survive and Kate wants a bow and arrow. She grows up competing in many sports that require discipline but someone don't listen to shit anyone says especially Hawkeye.

10 Reasons Why You Should Have Watched Loki

Loki Season One 10/10

This is gonna be full of spoilers. Sometimes I watch a show and episodes start to pile up and I end up not covering each one. Not because I don't want to but usually because there is so much that writing in pieces makes no sense to me. Loki is one of those shows. The last three episodes came and went so quickly that the next thing you know I was watching the finale and gasping at every damn thing that was happening. So far Disney+ has made WandaVision and Falcon And TheWinter Soldier work and I was nervous that this show had the chance to be a stinker. I was wrong. Black Widow was. I am gonna list 10 Reasons why you should have watched this or should start right now.

The Review: Loki S1E2/3

Loki Episode 2 “The Variant”

This damn show continues to be good! Loki is trying to weasel his way into meeting with the Time Keepers. He is still shook after seeing his fate at the hand of Thanos and having his mother killed by trying to have Thor killed. Loki figures out that the variant version of him that they are hunting hides in apocalypses because since shit is gonna end regardless no one will notice what it does because things are ending.

He ends up finding out that the Variant is hiding in Alabama in 2050 during a terrible ass storm. Loki finds the Variant able to enchant people and move and speak through them. Loki ends up having his ass kicked by someone until the Variant reveals herself as a Loki. She sets off a bunch of charges through different points in time and teleports away. Mobius spots Loki who also runs through the door. This episode was cool and they continue to make this crazy ass show that seems to make no sense make sense each time.

The Review: The Nevers

The Nevers 8/10

This series is weird as hell and I like it. The Nevers came out once a week which was great because each episode had a good cliffhanger and spread out information in a way that made me confused yet intrigued. Not confused, mad, and not caring about what happened (looking at you Who Killed Sara?). This takes place in the late 1800's and how one day this ship of some kind floated over London and gave people (mostly women) super powers of various types. The two main characters are Amalia True who is a bad ass fighter and can see glimpses of the future. She uses these glimpses to either avoid danger or gather clues from what she sees. In later episodes we see who she truly is and how she got to this time period. Yes, time travel. The last episode is baffling for 80% of it until its not. The other character is Penance Adair who is an inventor and can “see” energy. She annoyed me.

The Review: Loki S1E1

Loki Episode 1 “Glorious Purpose”

This show is starting off really fucking cool. After WandaVision and Falcon And The Winter Soldier this show could not start off lame in any way and thankfully it delivered more than I was even expecting. It starts off right after Loki escapes with the Tesseract and lands in a desert only to be captured by the Time Variance Authority (TVA). He tries to act like his normal ass Loki self all confident and cocky only to be shown that at this place he ain't shit. By the way, this is old Avenger's movie Loki so he hasn't experienced any character growth. It isn't until he watches his alternate history of himself seeing him be the cause of his mothers death, Odin dying, and Thanos snapping his raggedy ass neck. He also finds a drawer full of Infinity Stones that are also being used as paper weights.

The Review: Sweet Tooth

Sweet Tooth 4/10

You ever watch a show and sigh and curse a lot but keep watching it because its not so bad you'll quit but its not good enough to tell people you like to watch it? That's Sweet Tooth. L. and I watched this recently when I was just looking for something to occupy some time. It is about a virus that everyone is afraid of getting because these blue flowers start showing up and they die and kids are being born as hybrids of an animal. The main character is Gus who is half a deer which is a lame ass thing to be half of if you ask me. This kid caused me to curse way more than almost any other show I've seen. Everything he does that he shouldn't puts lives at risk. Okay. I am getting ahead of myself.

The Review: Made For Love Season One

Made For Love 8/10

I ended up finishing this show weeks ago and got wrapped up in watching a bunch of other shows so this review is late as hell. The basic premise is a woman leaves her marriage due to the fact that her husband is a controlling lunatic genius that implanted a device in her head so that he can see and hear everything she is doing under the guise of love and being closer. This device is supposed to be so that couples can be more open with each other.

The Review: Made For Love S1E1

"User One"

L. and I started watching this new series Made For Love on HBO Max the other day. It was insane. There are six episodes out right now but we checked out the first two which was very easy considering they are less than half an hour long which made me cheer inside. This is about a woman named Hazel Green-Gogol who seems to have a perfect life with her tech husband Byron Gogol. Everything is monitored. The love in a place called The Hub where even the sky is fake. She chills poolside reading magazines while a dolphin swims laps in the pool. Her orgasms are even monitored and she is required to rate them and make suggestions. Its fucking weird. The show goes back and forth through time showing some aspects of her childhood and parts of her and Byron's relationship. At a gathering for shareholders and such Byron announces that he has a new product called Made For Love where you and someone else will see, hear, feel, and know everything about one another at all times. Its a camera and recording device for a human. Also a GPS. Its creepy. This begins with Hazel coming out of a hatch in the middle of a desert and giving the finger to her home and hitching a ride.

The Review: WandaVision

WandaVision 10/10

Full of spoilers. Not even an hour combined. That is the amount of time that Wanda and Vision had on screen throughout all the MCU films. So who in the hell thought that it would even be okay to make an entire series focusing on two characters where one of 'em ain't even alive?! I don't know but I'm glad that they did because this show had no right to be as good as it was. Based on the trailer and the first few episodes I had so many questions and thankfully they answered all of them by the time the series wrapped up with nine episodes.

The Review: Harley Quinn Season 1 & 2

Harley Quinn 8/10

This cartoon was funny as fuck. I had seen clips of the Harley Quinn series and was confused because I hadn't heard that it was coming out or anything in 2019 or that there was a whole 'nother season that aired. Whoever was in charge of advertising needs help because I be knowing all kinda random ass comic shows that come out or will be. This series is the best representation of Harley Quinn I have ever seen even when she is aggravating as hell with her desire to keep running to Joker. That is something a cartoon very rarely even has the ability to do. After leaving him she decides that she wants to outshine him and get her own gang. No one really wants to join her and she loses connections when people find out she isn't with Joker anymore. She eventually gathers her own crew.

The Review: Lovecraft Country Season 1

Lovecraft Country 9/10

Full of spoilers! After months of not watching and some sad ass attempts at trying to recap this series episode by episode I have finally finished Lovecraft Country. This is one of the best series I have ever watched. I'm not even worried about hyping it too much because if you don't like this show something is wrong with you. Yeah. I said it. If you can't get into a show that has magic, time travel, ghosts, history lessons, monsters, science, and teaching you how not to be a racist asshole then I don't even wanna talk to you. Matter of fact, get out my face! This show was so damned good. So why didn't I give it a 10/10? I'll get to that.
