The Review: Bloodhounds

Bloodhounds 8/10

I saw a clip from this show online and was like “What is this?!” Found out that it was Netflix and decided to watch while I still have the service considering I forget it exists. This show kicked all kinds of ass for the most part. It got weird (for weird life reasons) towards the end and I could tell that they had to pivot in a large way. This is about this kid named Gun-woo that is a fucking amazing boxer. He fights amateur and is taking everyone out with one punch to the kidney. He is also good at blocking which is very helpful as the story goes on. He ends up facing this guy named Woo-jin who is also very good and ends up beating him. Woo-jin is tough. He actually got up after the first knock down. Later Gun-woo meets Woo-jin and asks if he wants to get something to eat. These two become the best of friends!

The Review: Swapped

Swapped 8/10

Spoilers!!! Last weekend L suggested this movie Swapped. I had never heard of it and chances are wouldn't have even checked it out because as I always say, it takes a lot for me to get into new animated movies. So glad we watched this one. This is about this little critter called a Pookoo named Ollie. He and his mother, father, and grandma live on this little island. Since he was little Ollie has been curious. Like, way too curious. Dangerously curious I would say. His father is like “Don't trust anything because everything will try to kill you!” He was super right by the way. His grandmother tells the story of how everyone lived together and these giant tree creatures called Dzo showed up and gave everyone the ability to be what they wanted. A firewolf showed up and started killing and burning them all.

The Review: Frankenstein/The Vince Staples Show/Fallout Season 2

I watched a few movies and TV shows over the last few weeks and have been not writing reviews like I should so I am gonna cram them all into this one post. Okay? Good. Now lets get started.

Frankenstein 9/10

This movie was great and I wish I had seen it in theaters but since it was on Netflix they had it in theaters for a few weeks. My lady watched this and knew I would like it but I dragged my ass to watch. I did and it made me remember how much I like Guillermo del Toro and the way he does everything. From music, scenery, acting, writing, directing. The man is amazing. I admittedly do not give a damn about Frankenstein but this movie made me like the portrayal. From the way the story was told from Victor's point of view and acting like the victim to the monsters side of things. This was a very good movie and worth watching. Would have made my best of 2025 list for sure.

The Review: His & Hers

His & Hers 9/10

All the spoilers. My lady and I watched this crazy ass six part series on Netflix recently. This lady named Anna returns to Atlanta to get her job back as a news anchor. The problem is that she has been missing for a year and someone else has the job now (naturally). Soon as she gets back there has been a murder in town of a well known woman named Rachel. Anna's estranged husband Jack is a detective in this place, Dahlonega, and is investigating with his new partner from Boston named Priya. So far we know that Anna knew Rachel and Jack was boning down with her. Rachel was married to a very well known business man. Oh, and when I said that Jack was boning down with Rachel I meant very recently as in the same night she was murdered. Rachel was stabbed 40 fucking times so whoever did it was not playing around.

The Review: KPop Demon Hunters

KPop Demon Hunters 9/10

I had no right to enjoy this movie as much as I did. I had heard about it but knew nothing about it and decided to check it out last week. This movie has everything. Six eyed crows. Demons. Swords. Rapping. Singing. Cross-eyed blue tiger. So years ago demons were just all over the planet cutting up led by Gwi-Ma. Three women got together like “Fuck all this!” and sealed up all the demons with this magical barrier called Honmoon. For years this has been a thing and they hope to one day get it to the point its a Golden Honmoon which will lock the demons away forever. These three girls named Mira, Rumi, and Zoey are the current demon hunters as well as a group that is insanely popular called Huntr/x. Their guide is named Celine. She knows that secretly Rumi is part demon because her mama I guess just wanted to take a walk on the wild side. Zoey and Mira don't know she has any demon in her because if they did they would kill her.

The Review: Special The Piano Lesson

The Piano Lesson

I have never done a review this way. In a short amount of time I have watched three versions of The Piano Lesson. I saw the live show first. Then I attempted to watch the 2024 film. Then I watched the 1995 film before trying once again to watch the new one. Full disclosure: I am missing half an hour of it and will likely never watch it. I am going to take each character and actor/actress from these different versions and talk about how I received them and what I liked or didn't.

“Set in 1936 Pittsburgh during the aftermath of the Great Depression, The Piano Lesson follows the lives of the Charles family in the Doaker Charles household and an heirloom, the family piano, which is decorated with designs carved by an enslaved ancestor. The play focuses on the arguments between a brother and a sister who have different ideas on what to do with the piano. The brother, Boy Willie, is a sharecropper who wants to sell the piano to buy the land (Sutter's land) where his ancestors toiled as slaves. The sister, Berniece, remains emphatic about keeping the piano, which shows the carved faces of their great-grandfather's wife and son during the days of their enslavement.”

The Review: Uglies

Uglies 1/10

I have to point out that I'm not even close to the target audience for a movie like this. I still for some reason have managed to watch a lot of these damn thing (Hunger Games, Divergent, Maze Runner, Ready Player One, Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse). That is way too many for my old ass. L and I watched this on Netflix and I laughed inside knowing that this kinda shit is the reason she is getting rid of Netflix soon because of the higher prices and ads. They are trying to recoup years of bad movies and decision making at the expense of viewers. Good luck if this is the type of movies you're putting out. I should probably talk about this batch of nonsense.

The Review: The Deliverance

 

The Deliverance 3/10

There is a special spot in hell for movies like this. You may be wondering why I didn't give this a 0/10 based off of that statement. Well, there is a scene in this that made me laugh one of the top five laughs in my life. I lost my shit for minutes and could not stop laughing and now L will randomly think of the scene and cry tears laughing. At home and in the In & Out drive through she will start laughing. So two of the points go for that laugh and the other is because we finished it cause I for sure wanted to stop at a certain point because this movie feels way longer than it actually is.

The Review: Supacell

Supacell 8/10

I had heard about this show but the poster looked kinda cheap so I wasn't gonna watch it. But one day hanging with L. I decided to just check it out and am glad I did. L. got into it as well. This is about five people from South London from very different walks of life who end up having to work together. There is Michael, who is a delivery driver. Sabrina, a nurse. Andre, a recently free from prison dude. Rodney, a drug dealer. And Tazer, a gang leader. How are these people gonna get powers? Do I want any of these people to have super powers? Not really but they get 'em along with a bunch of other folks. The one thing all these people have in common is a family history of sickle cell disease.

Documentality: The Man With 1000 Kids

This won't be too long. This is about this Jonathon dude that donates sperm to companies and women wanting to start a family and having trouble for whatever reason. You go online, look for a donor that fits what you looking for in a future child (hobbies and looks seem to be the most important), and get that sweet man gravy. He used a company where they had a certain amount you could donate on top of people using his services privately and doing it all over the world. In one part of the world he did it to the point where people knew one another that now had kids that were siblings. Though the number as far as they know around the world is 600 I assume that is bullshit and there are far more. They interview various people explaining the process of using this guy (and it turns out possibly one more because they were mixing their juices together for funsies).

The Review: The Book Of Clarence

The Book Of Clarence 5/10

I shit you not, until gathering the names of the cast of this I thought that Donald Glover played Jesus in this. Wow. I was super wrong. This is about a guy named Clarence who is hustling but not super successful at any of it. He decides to start performing “miracles” like Jesus which pisses off the apostles including his twin brother who is the 12th of them. I honestly don't have too much to say about this movie. It isn't bad but I couldn't sit here and say you should rush out and see it. The cinematography looks good and it has some good songs...but. The story has an issue with tone. It jumps from one feeling to another without giving enough time to let one settle which is odd considering how long this movie was. I checked it out on Netflix. Its a perfectly okay film.

Documentality: Lover Stalker Killer

Lover Stalker Killer 6/10

L. and I watched this crazy ass documentary on Netflix a few weeks ago. Once it started she already knew the story and we fast forward through a giant chunk because Netflix was like “We have a lot of text effects and we gonna use all of 'em!” It gets old. So this dude Dave is newly split with the mother of his children and decides to start using dating apps. This is back in 2012 when dating apps were like the wild west. So he meets up with this lady named Liz. He tells her he doesn't wanna be tied down and she seems cool with it. He later meets another woman which sets off a bizarre series of events such as Liz coming down with the worst luck ever. House burned down. Car keyed. The other woman comes up missing. Liz says she is being stalked. Turns out that Liz is doing all this to herself and stalking the fuck out of Dave. Oh, and she murdered the other woman. I told my lady “Ain't no dick in the world that good!” She agreed. This was fine but felt longer than it was even with fast forwarding. They could have had two different stories in this.

The Review: The Vince Staples Show

The Vince Staples Show 10/10

I had no idea this show existed until L. mentioned it this past weekend. The way Netflix is set up I likely would not have even had this suggested to me. I'm glad it exists because I would love more shows like this. It has been compared to Atlanta in some ways. I have watched that show on and off and to me it felt like a alternate reality where people know Vince Staples is a rapper or they don't know who he is and do not care at all. There are only five episodes (British style) and they run less than half an hour each with one going for only eighteen. I for real cracked up watching this multiple times and wanted more but was happy with what I got. The reason why I gave it such a high score is that I have zero complaints about this show and no suggestions on what could have made it better.

Documentality: Curry and Cyanide

Curry And Cyanide 8/10

Another documentary we watched was called Curry and Cyanide. It's the tale of this lady named Jolly Joseph who and India killed six people. You can guess how she did it. Her first victim was her mother-in-law who she gave a glass of water too with some cyanide in it. Next was her father-in-law followed shortly by her own husband. By the time she was done she had killed one more person, a child, and the mother of that child so she could be with the husband. This was insane to hear about but the crazy thing is when I watch some of these documentaries and I look at the years that this stuff was occurring it's just like “oh yeah life was real strange around that time.” Like, if anything insane happened between 2019 and 2021 chances are I missed out on it. The thing about this lady that bugs me so much other than the fact that she was a murderer was that she would straight up be at these people's funerals standing over their caskets knowing good and damn well that she hadn't murdered them. She would have gotten caught sooner if they had done autopsies on some of these bodies and understood the fact that women could kill. I also like that they had real people involved in this case interviewed. There weren't strange reenactments really of things happening and they spoke to people involved in having her caught including her sister-in-law and one of her two children. This is on Netflix and is a really quick watch.

Documentality: Hell Camp

Hell Camp 7/10

A few weeks ago L. and I watched this documentary called Hell Camp on Netflix. This was nuts. Its about a “camp” where your parents pay a lot of money for you to be kidnapped from your home, taking to Utah, and forced to hike hundreds of miles in the desert. Okay, but really it's for out of control teens and this program set up by this guy named Steve is supposed to whip you into shape. It did eventually get shut down and by shut down I mean moved to a new location until a 16 year old girl actually died. So what happens is you are a teen in the 80s or 90s and smoking weed and drinking and just being a general nuisance. Your parents are sitting at home watching Donahue and they see this guy Steve show up and talks about how you should be dealing with your out of control teenagers. Mind you we later find out that his son is also out of control and ends up at one of these places along with his another child of Steve's who ends up with drug issues as well. So they take you out of your house, throw you on the plane, drop you off in this desert, and the next thing you know Macho Man Randy Savage is screaming in your face.

The Review: Leave The World Behind

Leave The World Behind -3/10

The amount of hatred I have for this movie is incredible. I am a semi-rational person and I understand that art is supposed to be subjective. But the movie Leave the World Behind is legitimately one of the worst movies I have ever seen in my life. L. suggested that we watch this and I was not super opposed to it because I didn't know anything about it but was aware that two big actors were in it. I was very surprised and I discovered there was a big actress in it as well. So we started this movie and right now I am trying my best not to jump to the ending that pushed me over the edge and just stick with the fact that this movie had no redeeming qualities. I have watched some really terrible movies where I can say at least it was shot well or at least it had good music. This is not one of those movies.

The Review: Spider Man Across The Spiderverse

Spider Man Across The Spiderverse 3/10

I thoroughly enjoyed the first movie. This one...not so much. It looked good. The music was nice. The voice acting was on point. But the story felt so all over the place and this felt way longer than it actually was. I had to spread this out over the night and through the day to finish. This would have worked better as a series, not a two and a half hour long movie that had no ending. Yeah. I didn't know this was setting up for a sequel that may take a while to come out. I should talk about the story. Miles is having trouble balancing being a hero and his normal life. He discovers he should never have become Spider-Man and we get into a bunch of Multiverse issues. People talk about “superhero fatigue.” I am having multiverse fatigue. There was so much going on in this that I didn't stick with any character long enough to really care. It was just a lot of flashy things happening on screen.

The Review: They Cloned Tyrone

They Cloned Tyrone 10/10

I love weird ass movies. I really love weird ass Black movies in particular. I had seen a billboard for this movie on Sunset a couple of weeks ago and decided to check it out after seeing people say how good it was. This was a creative movie that is something I am gonna have to watch a few more times because I was watching it in so much amazement at how people can write and direct things in certain ways. Visually this was good. The wardrobe, the scenery, the hairstyles. You couldn't tell what decade this was taking place in. I should start describing the movie.

The Review: The Woman King

The Woman King 8/10

As I sit here with my feet soaking in warm water with bubbles in between my toes I realize that after watching a film like The Woman King I would not have survived that environment in real life nor the training done to do this movie. The Woman King turned out to be a far better film than I expected it to be. Not that I thought it was going to be bad or anything but I pretty much thought it was just going to be an action film with a lot of tough ass looking women and that's about it. I was very wrong. This is about a general and she leads and trains a group of women warriors from all different parts of Africa. Colonizers start arriving and she begins to realize that they are just trading their own people for more weapons and losing more and more of themselves as time goes on. The king agrees with her but he also has his evil ass wife in his ear who tries to go behind his back and make decisions because she wants to be declared the next woman king.
