In This Our Life 7/10

Last week my lady and I went on a Warner Bros lot tour and Bette Davis kept coming up and we found this movie and checked it out. The premise sounded super simple like a woman steals her sisters man...for starters. I was like tell me more. Oh lord did they tell me more. This movie had a lot of stuff happening and from the way it began I did not expect it to end with a fiery car crash!

This is gonna sound confusing because this family got weird names and the girls have typically dude names. The father Asa used to run a company but now just works at it. He is walking home with Parry. Parry's mother works as a housekeeper for the family and he helps with driving and washing cars along with at a shop. Black people used to be too busy. So Asa comes home and his wife Lavinia is in bed and sick for no reason. She is like on those Hitchcock episodes where an old lady is just in bed but not coughing or anything. Just...unhealthy. But they always have the energy to fuss.

The Review: Holiday Inn

It is going to be a little bit difficult to do this review based on what happens in this film. L. mentioned something that occurs in this film that in a lot of other versions is edited out but we watched this on Amazon I believe and they kept it in. So let me just start describing what this movie is actually about before I go on a tirade. There are these three performers Jim, Ted, and Lila. They do a whole song and dance routine up in New York. Jim is performing for the last time because he's going to marry Lila. His whole plan is to go live on a farm and rest and relax because he's tired of being on stage all of the time. Well he finds out that not only is Lila not coming with him but that his partner Ted is cheating with Lila and they're both going to just continue to show in New York.

The Review: Cat People (1942)

This movie was strange as hell. Like, 1942 strange. This is about this lady standing in a zoo drawing a panther and littering. Literally. She doesn't like what she draws and tosses the paper on the ground and starts again. This guy named Oliver sees her and starts talking to her because she cute because if she was an ugmo he would've been like “Stop littering, ya bum!” They start chatting and he ends up in her apartment that looks like someone just cleaned a haunted house. She says she is from Serbia and tells her a story about this king showing up and chasing all the witches and shit out of the village. Oliver is like “Yeah...okay” but she is dead ass serious. There is no real time frame given for this so their relationship moves in fast forward because the next thing you know he buys her a cat. Like, give me a plant. I don't want a whole new being to take care of without asking for it. It doesn't last because the cat wont go near her ass. They go to return it to the pet shop and all the animals start freaking out. There is a monkey there because...1942. They end up with a bird. That is very different than a cat.

The Review: The Man Who Came To Dinner

The Man Who Came to Dinner 8/10

A few weeks ago L. and I watched this movie called The Man Who Came To Dinner. It was made in 1942 and in all honesty I fell asleep when we first started watching it because it was late as hell. We ended up finishing it the next day and I laughed way too much at this movie. This movie is about this jerk named Whiteside who is a radio personality who ends up breaking his hip when he falls down on the steps of this rich house. He pretty much forces them to let him stay there while he recuperates in his wheelchair and the whole time he is getting weird objects sent to the house from rich and famous people. I'm talking about penguins, octopus, and even an Egyptian sarcophagus. So while he's there his assistant Maggie is also there and she ends up falling for this dude who works at the newspaper named Bert. Bert is working on a play and he really wants Whiteside to read it but Whiteside doesn't want him dating his assistant because then she'll go away. Whiteside ends up scheming with this actress that he knows to take Bert away from his assistant so that she can't quit.
