The Review: Imitation Of Life (1959)

Imitation of Life 8/10

I really enjoyed this movie and talked way too much during it. L gave me three choices of movies and I picked this one. It was in color which she had not seen before but it was done well. I had heard of this movie just on title but knew nothing else going in. This starts off in 1947 and this mother named Lora is screaming looking for her daughter, Susie at the beach. This is the most packed beach I have ever seen in my life and L said she would have turned right back around. This guy Steve helps tell her where a cop is and she finds her daughter sitting with this lady Annie and her daughter Sarah Jane. You will learn to hate Sarah Jane by the end of this movie. Maybe not as much as I did but still. Annie is a Black woman and her daughter is as well but don't look it. Lora mentions that she would like someone like Annie to help her out and Annie is like “Hire me!” Lora says she can't afford it but after seeing Sarah Jane cry about wanting a home she takes her in.

The Review: House On Haunted Hill (1959)

    House On Haunted Hill 7/10

Me and L. wanted to watch some spooky films for the holidays so we decided to watch this, the 1959 classic House On Haunted Hill. This movie was weird as hell but I liked it. This rich dude decides to have five people come to this party he is throwing for his wife, Annabelle. His fourth wife. The others dead. She don't wanna go because he didn't invite any friends. The husband, Frederick Loren, is a weird ass guy. He says he will give 10,000 smackeroos to anyone that can stay the whole night in this place after the doors lock at midnight. Seems pretty easy, right? The five people are a test pilot named Lance, a newspaper woman named Ruth, a psychiatrist named Trent, this poor girl who gets all the scares named Nora, and the guy that owns the house named Watson. He drinks a lot and talks about previous murders in the place. None of these people know each other but they all want that money for different reasons.

The Review: Black Orpheus

Black Orpheus 9/10

This movie was awesome. I had heard of Black Orpheus but didn't know nothing about it other than the original tale it spun from which took me way to long to figure out in this film. L. suggested this one and we checked it out last week. Its about this woman named Eurydice who arrives to Rio de Janeiro during Carnival...I think. The whole city is a big ass party that will culminate with an even larger one. She is trying to get to her cousins place because she is on the run and ends up getting snatched onto a train. Like, literally snatched onto it. She is found at the last stop by this dude named Orfeu who is the train driver. He immediately takes a liking to her but he is newly engaged and every woman in the town wants a slice of him. He doesn't seem to want to get married to Mira who wants all of the attention from everyone.
