Based on. What does that mean? I know what inspired by means. It means you can get away with a lot of things that didn't happen for real like in all of those exorcism films. Most of them are based off of one story that may have happened and then you can go bananas making the rest of it up. That is what Blue Caprice is though the poster says based on. Me and Cam saw this and after we left we were just puzzled and I asked myself for the hundredth time “Why was this made?”
Back in 2002 there was the DC Sniper attacks. If you don't remember that then you are probably too young or you just don't give a damn about murders and attacks happening in your own country. This movie is about that. Tequan Richmond plays a kid named Lee that lives in the islands. One day his mother leaves and never comes back. He wanders around hungry and starts following a man and his children.
Isaiah Washington plays John, the father, who saves Lee after he seems to be trying to drown himself in the ocean. He takes him in and eventually back to America to stay with him and some woman he is fucking. They start hanging out, learning to shoot, and it turns out the kid is good at it. Suddenly the father is all “My ex wife wont let me see my kids and this country is falling apart so we should totally start killing people to make them wake up.”
The kid kills a girl when asked to sort of and feels bad. The two later stay with an old friend of John's and they practice shooting. The kid still has some remorse then suddenly is all about the murder. They buy a blue Caprice and start killing people before being caught because they fell asleep at a rest stop and a cop thought it was suspicious.
We started talking about this movie afterward and tried to piece together what we knew about the actual case compared to the movie and things about the film started to fall apart. The entire Muslim aspect of John was not used at all in the film nor the fact that their mission was to murder specifically White people and Cam said probably because the director would have had to remove the whole John fucking his White best friends wife and hanging with the guy.
The clues they left behind are alluded to and they play real footage from the shootings but the movie, while less than 90 minutes, felt closer to two hours long. Lots of driving around, lots of exercising, lots of drive training that is never really used by the shooters, and an ending that will make you punch the chair in front of you. We plan on watching other films based off of this case because this movie, while not terrible, is close to a waste of time.
