Theater Whore: Neighbors

Neighbors 7/10

I trust Seth Rogen. Whenever I hear an interview with him promoting a movie and he says that his movie is funny I believe him. The trailer for this movie really needs to be done over again because it seems to be aiming for Rogen's normal crowd which will enjoy this movie but I think that if you are one of those people that say you don't like his movies or think it'll be too crass for you that you should give it a shot. Its actually very funny. Just the scene where they try to have sex but can't because the baby is watching made me crack up.

With this movie Neighbors it seems like there is a lot working against it. It is starring Rogen as Mac Radner. Rose Byrne as his wife Kelly who you have seen in movies but might not really know who she is. Zac Efron as Teddy Sanders who I can say that I've never watched a movie with him in it. He is described physically as “something a team of gay guys built in a machine.” Dave Franco stars as Pete Regazolli. Mac and Kelly are new parents who are having a hard time adjusting to no longer being able to leave the house and have fun and being parents. There's a funny scene where they are invited to a rave and fall asleep just getting the daughter ready to leave the house.

Teddy runs a fraternity and they move in next door. Mac and Kelly are immediately worried because they know that it'll be noisy. They try to appear as if they are still hip and cool, give joints to the college students, and they say that they will let them know if they are too loud by calling before alerting the police. The next night there is a huge party and they head over there and rock out with them, making sure to check the baby monitor. The next day they think everything will be fine until there's another party.

Shit hits the fan when Mac calls the police after not being able to reach Teddy on the phone. Teddy feels betrayed and he and his fraternity go out of their way to make the Radner's life a living hell. Loud parties, selling dildos of their own penises to raise money on the lawn, and this air bag prank that made me laugh four times hard as fuck. Mac and Kelly enlist the help of their friends played by Ike Barinholtz and Carla Gallo who used to be together and shit gets even funnier somehow.

I really hope that this movie is number one this weekend. Rogen doesn't not make movies that cost a lot of money which also makes me happy. This movie isn't as cut as dry as the trailer makes it look or as I thought at one point while watching. This is a good and funny movie even though I'm not a parent and never went to college.
