The Review: Grease

Last week L. had me watch this movie after being shocked I'd not seen it. As far as I knew this movie had a couple of songs in it and was about street racing. There are a lot of songs and dancing and one single damned street race. This takes place in the late 1950's and begins with this dude named Danny and a girl named Sandy being goofy at the beach building sand castles and having a great time. She is from Australia and leaving when summer is over and they decide to just enjoy one another. School starts and Danny is running with his T-Bird gang. Not sure how gangy they really are. There is Danny, one other normal seeming guy, and three dweebs. I would not be afraid of this crew even though they all appear to be adult men.

This movie was weird as all hell. It is about a cult that brings a demon back in the form of a dog and the dogs are given away. One family gets it and it immediately starts jacking up the family dynamic leaving the father to solve this mysterious mystery!

The Review: Deathsport

Deathsport 2/10

I don't think I have ever told a motorcycle to shut up before. Before I even go on you do not need to see this movie. It is not even ninety minutes but feels like three hours. So many slow motion explosions and bikes jumping a whopping three feet off the air. Its extreeeeeeeme!!! Deathsport takes place in the year 3,000 and everyone is living in a weird ass future after the Neutron Wars. This dude named Kaz is riding around on a horse in fur draws with a clear sword being hunted by dudes on bikes with lasers that make you straight up vanish. He manages to get captured which was as shocking as a cartoon character dying. He gets locked in a cell with some other fur wearers who had a girl kidnapped by mutants. The place is run by a dude named Lord Zirpola who makes criminals fight for freedom against the laser bikes and for funsies he has women dance naked in a room full of dangling stripper pools that shock them eventually. He is losing his mind. He ends up dying after one of them just pulls him into the poles. It was weird.

The Review: Soul Brothers Of Kung Fu

Soul Brothers of Kung Fu 1/10

This movie was such trash it doesn't even have a damn Wiki page. Soul Brothers Of Kung Fu was wack. I thought it was about some Black dudes doing kung fu in Harlem or something. Its not. It is a bunch of bad fights for the most part and horrible dubs. I know the dubs in these movies was never good. A fake Bruce Lee and this Black dude fight people. The ending is nothing but fights but not in a cool way. It turns into a car chase and then more fighting and betrayal. Not worth watching even for fun.

The Review: The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin

The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin 6/10

I watched the Shaw Brothers movie from 1978 called The 36th Chamber Of Shaolin. This was longer than the old kung fu films that I am used to watching and watched an ass load of when I was a little kid. It stars Gordon Liu as Liu Yude who is a student that is rebellious against the government which back in the day was dangerous as hell and could get you beaten or killed. Remember when it was dangerous to rebel against the government? Man. Those days were rough. Nowadays we can say or do whatever we want.

The Review: Invasion Of The Body Snatchers

I finally checked out the 1978 movie Invasion Of The Body Snatchers. I had heard of this and other versions for years but never had a desire to really check it out until talking about horror films and such at work. I even had it bookmarked from months ago after someone else mentioned it. All I knew about it was pod people, creepy Sutherland face, and strange music. Turns out it was a really good film that had strange music, odd camera angles, and actors making me want to slap them for making bad decisions that ultimately led to a lot of deaths.

Some juicy spores come from space and land on plants which people immediately walk around picking up and sniffing. This lady Elizabeth Driscoll played by Brooke Adams brings one home and her boyfriend that is watching TV with headphones because the 70's ends up smelling it as well. Next thing you know he is acting distant, working too much, and not talking to her. He's pretty much being a husband. She knows something is up but isn't quite sure because Ashley Madison doesn't exist yet so it cant be that.

Way Back: Driver

"If I drive for you, you give me a time and a place. I give you a five-minute window, anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours no matter what. I don't sit in while you're running it down; I don't carry a gun... I drive." That is a quote from the 2011 film Drive starring Ryan Gosling and it could also be the tag-line for this 1978 film Driver starring Ryan Oneal. When Koko told me about this movie she said that Drive was a remake of Driver and I said it wasn't because the book for Drive was written fairly recently.

Turns out that Drive just borrowed heavily from Driver.
