The Review: Lupin Season 2

Lupin Season Two 4/10

I enjoyed the first season of Lupin more but what I once thought was clever became annoying. Netflix is starting to do this thing where they run a series into the ground using what makes it cute. It would be like telling someone you like a shirt they wear so they put on three at once. They did this with Who Killed Sara? as well. The cliffhangers went from “I can't wait to see what happens next!” to knowing that they were being predictable. With Lupin he does things that seem impossible and then they show a flashback showing how it was all done. That was cute last season. Now its a trope and annoying. I get him being smart an' shit but I realized that all of his plans depend on everyone around him being stupid.

In this season his son is snatched following the end of last season. He tracks him down with the cop who kinda digs him pretending he doesn't know he is a cop. He traps him in a car and battles the bad guy who sets the car on fire with Lupin's son inside. Seems like he is dead but cop broke free and saved him. He goes to the cops who are all filthy and ends up as bait for Lupin. Then he is bait again and Lupin is on the run. This show gets to a point where I stopped thinking that Lupin would ever get in trouble. Even after getting arrested he easily breaks free.

Lupin becomes Batman after a while and can do anything except stop the guy he is trying to take down which is strange and another thing that reminded me of WKS (that's what the cool kids call Who Killed Sara?). In WKS the main dude could do anything using technology and it seemed like he could stop the evil family in a weekend if he wanted. Instead he seemed to play games with him. That seems to be what is happening here. When your son gets kidnapped there needs to be a change in his character. He seems unfazed by everything and is always the cool guy so there is no sense of danger. He needed to get angry at some point and when he eventually did I knew he wasn't gonna do what he should do and that is kill the bad guy.

There is supposed to be another season but just like with WKS I won't be watching. Netflix is playing themselves at this point and there is way too much TV and streaming services for me to try and force myself to watch something that I'm not enjoying. The flashbacks they show of him as a child show that he was never shit really. He is now a grown ass man with a kid doing the same things and putting other folks lives in danger. And I have to point out once again how terrible the English voicing is. I wish I knew French just to watch this show since even the English captions don't match what is being said. Sometimes not even kind of! Do better.
