I finally finished watching We Own The Night which I started months ago. I began on my Kindle but there are some things that you just can not enjoy the same on those things. This is a movie that I had heard of but did not know who was in it or what it was about. This is a good, solid movie that I am surprised that not that many people have ever mentioned this. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes, and Robert Duvall. Seriously. With that cast how have I not seen this movie before now? It takes place in Brooklyn, New York in 1988. Phoenix is Bobby Green. He is running a super popular night club, doing all the drugs, having all the Mendes sex, and generally enjoying his life. Meanwhile his brother Joseph played by Wahlberg is a super cop. He raids the club one night and Bobby is all about not cooperating. He fights back and is arrested. By the way, no one knows they are related.

The Review: The Place Beyond The Pines

The Place Beyond The Pines 10/10

There will be spoilers for this years old movie. I loved The Place Beyond The Pines. I don't know why I didn't check it out sooner. It stars Ryan Gosling who is bae. Eva Mendes who is co-bae. Seriously. This has just been sitting in my Netflix cue and I have been thinking of deleting it for no reason. Thank god I didn't because all I thought this was about was Gosling riding a motorcycle and doing crime with Mendes as his partner and Bradley Cooper hunting them down like some bootleg Bonnie & Clyde. I was super wrong. Gosling is Luke Glanton. He is a motorcycle stuntman that just breezes through towns. One day he is found by a girl he slept with, Romina Gutierrez played by Mendes. He drops her off at home and that is that. He ends up finding out that she had a baby and he is the father. He is upset that she was going to let him leave town not knowing that he had a son.

The Review: Bad Lieutenant (old review)

Wow. I have seen some stinkers in my time. But Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call - New Orleans has to take the biggest slice of the cake. This film stars Nicholas Cage, Eva Mendes, Val Kilmer, Xzibit, Fairuza Balk and Jennifer Coolidge. Now, this is one of those deals where it’s a remake of an older film but not being called one since they veer so much off the mark of the original.

This story centers around Cage’s life as a cop with a back injury that leads to an addiction to pain killers. He sleeps with a hooker, Mendes, who rolls customers for their drugs. Apparently in New Orleans everyone you stick up has coke on them. Who knew?! Meanwhile there’s an investigation to a murdered family which brings us to Xzibit who is being represented by Colonel Sanders, I shit you not. Val Kilmer plays a dirty cop but he isn’t close to as dirty as Cage is. Fairuza plays a cop that used to work with Cage but is in the movie for perhaps two minutes. But, man. Those two minutes almost made up for how bad this movie is.
