The Review: Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot

Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot 8/10

I just finished watching the movie Don't Worry, He Won't Get Far On Foot. Cam had talked about it on our Chocket Awards (click here to listen to that) and I had not seen it yet. This is based off of the memoir of a cartoonist named John Callahan and his journey from being an alcoholic to quadriplegic to drunken quadriplegic artist to finally sober. I liked the way that they portrayed his alcoholism in this. It never seemed fun. In some movies they make it seem like this personal party to the person involved but in this they managed to really show how sad and lonely it can actually be. One night while partying and drinking John meets a guy named Dexter and they just keep the party going until they end up crashing. Dexter gets away fine but John loses his ability to feel below his neck.

The Review: We Own The Night

We Own The Night 7/10

I finally finished watching We Own The Night which I started months ago. I began on my Kindle but there are some things that you just can not enjoy the same on those things. This is a movie that I had heard of but did not know who was in it or what it was about. This is a good, solid movie that I am surprised that not that many people have ever mentioned this. It stars Mark Wahlberg, Joaquin Phoenix, Eva Mendes, and Robert Duvall. Seriously. With that cast how have I not seen this movie before now? It takes place in Brooklyn, New York in 1988. Phoenix is Bobby Green. He is running a super popular night club, doing all the drugs, having all the Mendes sex, and generally enjoying his life. Meanwhile his brother Joseph played by Wahlberg is a super cop. He raids the club one night and Bobby is all about not cooperating. He fights back and is arrested. By the way, no one knows they are related.

You Had One Job: New Joker Movie

Last year I heard talks of a Joker movie being made rolled my eyes so hard that I went back in time to seeing his portrayal in Suicide Squad and passed out. Names have been thrown around playing him such as Jared Leto again, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Joaquin Phoenix. Just knowing that this is on the horizon is like walking a plank with swords to your back and a pile of shit at the end. I know I am taking this ridiculously hard but it is because I love the Joker so damned much. I've written about who should play him in the past and am mad that Adrian Brody has still not been mentioned to play him. People need to work with me. I got Doctor Strange right by casting Benedict Cumberbatch.

Theater Whore: Inherent Vice

Inherent Vice 8/10

Inherent Vice was a really good movie. I would have rated it even higher but it left a lot of unanswered questions and there wasn't enough of certain actors and actresses in it. Joaquin Phoenix stars in this and is very good. I haven't seen a ton of his movies so each time I have he is playing a very different kind of character. This is one of those movies that you'll have to watch twice to get everything that is involved with it.

Theater Whore: Her

Her – 9/10

As you can tell, lately I've been cramming in a lot of movies with Cam since it is almost time for awards so the good stuff is finally coming out after a year of some of the most booty ass films. We decided to do another one of our double features. Last night the first film we saw was Her. This led to jokes between us about movies with vague titles like Them, They Live, It, and The Thing. This movie was directed by Spike Jonze which meant that at the very least it would be interesting.

It stars Theodore Twombly played by Joaquin Phoenix. He works at a place that writes professionally made hand written letters for people. Like, if you want to tell your kids, spouse, or friend how much you love them this place will do it for you and Theodore is one of the best at it. He is in the process of getting a divorce and refuses to sign the papers. While going to sleep one night he decides to check out some chat rooms. There is a small earpiece he wears to check everything from email to talk to people and finds a woman to talk to who goes from a 2 to 11 in terms of phone sex. I won't spoil what happens but everyone in the theater was dying laughing!
