Theater Whore: 22 Jump Street

22 Jump Street 6/10

Since I liked 21 Jump Street so much that I had to watch this sequel 22 Jump Street. It has the same stars, Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, Nick Offerman, and Ice Cube. But they added a few more to the cast and one that was especially awesome and deserved way more screen time was Jillian Bell. That girl was funny as hell and I'd never seen her in anything before. The movie starts with a guy named Ghost played by Peter Stormare who is the bad guy, of course. Schmidt (Hill) and Jenko (Tatum) go undercover as cholos to try and bust them. It all goes to shit when an octopus jumps Schmidt and the bad guys get away.

Deputy Chief Hardy (Offerman) sends Schmidt and Jenko on another undercover case. He tells them to do exactly what they did the last time. He then goes on to explain what is going to happen in the movie including all the problems they will have and how they will overcome them. They need to find out why a girl was killed that involves a drug called WHYPHY (Word hard, yes. Play harder yes.) and are roomed together. Immediately Jenko makes friends with the jocks while Schmidt struggles as usual to talk to people. Schmidt ends up meeting and hooking up with a girl named Maya played by Amber Stevens who has the roommate from hell.

In this episode I decided to try something different. I used original songs and combined them with hip hop songs that sampled from them. I play The Isley Brothers/Perfeck Strangers Work To Do, The Isley Brothers Between The Sheets/Notorious BIG Big Poppa/Ice Cube Today Was A Good Day, Betty Wright Tonight Is The Night/Candyman Knockin' Boots, Alicia Myers/Busta Rhymes & Q Tip Thank You, and Fosters Sylvers Misdemeanor/The D.O.C It's Funky Enough. Theater Whore: Ride Along & The Legend Of Hercules

Ride Along 5/10

I have wanted to see Ride Along ever since I first saw the trailer for it. It stars Kevin Hart who I think is funny as hell (except for Let Me Explain where I laughed once) and I've been a fan of Ice Cube since I was a child. The two of them together seemed like it would be a great mix and for a bit it is. But this movie takes a turn and never gets back to what made the movie funny at times, which was the interaction between Hart and Cube.

Hart plays Ben Barber who is a security guard at a high school who wants to join the police academy. He spends his free time playing video games online which give him a ton of knowledge about guns though he's never held a real one. He wants to marry his fiancee Angela Payton played by Tika Sumpter who is just too damned cute. The biggest hurdle is James Payton played by Cube who is her older brother.

My Top Five Rappers Of All Time

For anyone that doesn't know, I'm a huge fan of music. Like, lots of music. I started The Ross Radio Show just to share all the types I love listening to with the world. There isn't a single day that goes by where I don't listen to at the very least an two and a half hours of music. Lately I have been listening to and reading lots of lists, most being the best rapper of all time. This is an issue that almost no one is going to agree on because there is so many different forms of rap and rappers. Some say hip-hop but when I use that word I have to actually pause a split second and say it. My brain goes to “rap” automatically.

Making my own list wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it would be though at the last second I did change who my number one was. If you ask me for my top five ten years from as we're hunkered down waiting for the dirt people to leave town with fresh new victims I'll probably have one or two other rappers on here. But as of this date, November 26th 2013, these are my Top Five Rappers Of All Time.

Theater Whore: 21 Jump Street

I so didn’t want to see 21 Jumpstreet. I’d seen the trailer and all the billboards posted all over the damned city and it just didn’t look good. But then I remembered how trailers have really fucked me over in the past few years and decided to give this a try. I’m glad I did because this turned out to be a very funny film. Why? Because they point out the obvious just when you’re thinking the same damned thing.
