The Review: Black Mirror S4E3 "Crocodile"

Black Mirror Crocodile 1/10

I am finally watching some more episodes of Black Mirror and just finished episode three from season four. I didn't like it. I'm still trying to figure out what exactly it was that made this episode feel so insignificant. Like, this episode did not even need to be made. It has a premise that could work out to be interesting but felt like a light ass version of Black Mirror. It felt like that Phillip K. Dick series that is so bland I haven't even bothered writing about it. A woman riding with a guy who drunkenly kills someone on the road helps him cover it up and years later he wants to come clean with it.

The Review: Black Mirror S4E2 "Arkangel"

Black Mirror Arkangel 8/10

This will have spoilers. Black Mirror is known for messing with my brain so much that I started spreading out when I watch episodes. It is not a binge show which most folks learn too late. I finally finished watching the episode titled Arkangel last night and was glad that I didn't feel greasy afterward. This episode starts with this mom named Marie played by Rosemarie DeWitt giving birth in a hospital. There are some complications for a moment but then her daughter is all fine. Later her daughter is a toddler and one day at the park she turns her back and her daughter is gone. She freaks the fuck out and eventually her daughter, Sara, is found. After this Marie is like “Never again shall I not know where my daughter is!” But she takes this shit to a whole 'nother level.

The Review: Black Mirror S4E1 "USS Callister"

Black Mirror USS Callister 9/10

I have decided to try something different. Normally when I watch Black Mirror I wait until I am done with the entire season before I write about it. With this current fourth season I am gonna cover them one at a time instead of being late as hell with my reviews (click these for reviews of season one, two, and three). The first episode of this season USS Callister was very different from previous episodes which I had no problem with. Two of the six from the previous season stunk so I am fine with a change of pace. This one starts off weird as hell. It is like some bootleg Star Trek with Captain Robert Daly played by Jesse Plemons and his crew. They are about to get jacked by an alien spaceship but with some dangerous orders are able to avoid death. Meanwhile in the real world...

The Review: Black Mirror Season Three

Black Mirror Season Three 7/10

I finally got around to finishing season three of Black Mirror. The first season (click here to check that review out) was incredible even though it is hard to get people to watch since the first one is the most extreme I have seen so far. Seriously, people. No other episode is like that one! Season two was also really good (click here to check that one out) so I was really looking forward to it. I was not aware that there were six episodes and that made me nervous it turns out for good reason. Out of the six two of them were stinkers and now I am not in a rush to check out the fourth season. There will be some spoilers.

Nosedive is the first episode in this season and it had me going nuts. For people that do not now, I do not use cell phones and have never owned one. Not for any social or rebellious reasons. I just never needed one (except maybe twice a year when the bus decides to not show up). This stars Bryce Dallas Howard as Lacie Pound. In this world she has a rating of 4.2. What this is is a rating system that everyone has. The higher your rating the more things you do like get invites, better jobs, and just a general better social standing in the community. You can rate anyone and they can rate you which leads to everyone being super polite and phony with one another. You know that fake customer service voice you hear on the phone or the greeting when shopping? Imagine that everywhere you go because no one wants a bad rating. If you are even seen talking to someone with a low rating yours can be affected.

The Review: Black Mirror Season Two

Black Mirror Season Two 9/10

I swear, this show Black Mirror managed to jack me up every single episode. Just when I thought I knew where the story was going I would not only be wrong, but wrong and left feeling like an asshole. There are some episodes in particular that made me feel stupid for feeling a certain way the entire episode until the last ten minutes. This season had three episodes just like the first as well as a bonus Christmas episode that I'll include. I am so glad these are all on Netflix. From talking to folks that are afraid to watch this show its because of that pig episode in the first season. Come on, people. That is the very first episode of the first season. They ain't all that bad. I mean, it was a crazy good episode but fucked up. There will be some spoilers, you babies.

The Review: Black Mirror Season One

Black Mirror 10/10

Its so hard to describe this series other than saying that it is one of the best series I've ever seen. Kiyoshi mentioned it to me a long while back and I just got around to watching. It is so strange, creative, and original. The creator of the series Charlie Brooker has said regarding the series “each episode has a different cast, a different setting, even a different reality. But they're all about the way we live now – and the way we might be living in 10 minutes' time if we're clumsy.” The first season has three episodes where neither are connected. It has been compared to The Twilight Zone and I can see that. I'll recap each of the three episodes and there will be some spoilers from this series that's been out for years. Ya babies.
